Come to Switzerland in the days before Christmas, strolling through Geneva

The further north I go, the more fascinated I am by the customs and traditions. The same goes for the Christmas season. I had already been amazed with my experience in Germany and this scabby stay in Switzerland left me even more speechless.

Although I was only 2 and a half days in the heart of the United Nations, I was able to get to know a lot of the city and marvel at its order.

In addition, I was lucky enough to get to know it in the run-up to Christmas, when the famous Christmas markets come to life.

Ven a Suiza los días antes de Navidad, paseando por Ginebra

Mientras más al norte me voy, más fascinada quedo con las costumbres y tradiciones. Lo mismo me genera la época navideña. Ya había quedado maravillada con mi experiencia en Alemania y esta corta estadía por Suiza me dejó aún más boquiabierta.

Aunque estuve solo 2 días y medio en el corazón de las Naciones Unidas, pude conocer bastante de la ciudad y maravillarme con su orden.

Además, tuve la suerte de conocerla en la previa de Navidad, que es cuando los famosos mercados navideños cobran vida.

Not a movie

In Geneva, more than once the phrase crossed my mind: This is not a movie, it's real. And although I know that Switzerland promises several other truly dreamlike cities, Geneva stood out with what it offers to the visitor, especially on the eve of the Christmas holiday.

The cities were in many parts decorated with lights, locals left Christmas pines at the entrances and shopping malls and famous locals dressed up in yellow lights to announce the arrival of Christmas.

In addition, in pedestrian areas there were decorations, such as three beautiful stars along a pedestrian path or a giant Christmas pine tree preceded by illuminated tiles that dictated phrases such as thank you, welcome, good night and others, in different languages.

En Ginebra, más de una vez se me cruzó por la cabeza la frase: Esto no es una película, es real. Y aunque sé que Suiza promete varias otras ciudades verdaderamente de ensueño, Ginebra se destacó con lo que ofrece al visitante, en especial en vísperas de la fiesta navideña.

La ciudades estaba en muchas partes decoradas con luces, los locales dejaron pinos navideños en las entradas y centros comerciales y famosos locales se vistieron de luces amarillas para anunciar la llegada de la Navidad.

Además, en sectores peatonales habían adornos, como es el caso de tres estrellas preciosas que se encontraban por un camino destinado al peatón o un pino navideño gigante precedido por baldosas iluminadas que dictaban frases como gracias, bienvenidos, buenas noches y otras, en diferentes idiomas.

Also, what caught my attention the most, was the crossing of the Rhone River at its mouth, already entering Lake Geneva. There were bridges full of lights like a footbridge that once you started to cross, you began to discover more and more signs that shouted "Christmas!

Definitely this and the Cartier sign, drenched in golden lights, left me stunned but in the best of ways. Let me clarify that I don't know if this Cartier color is evergreen or if it was put in place for Christmas, but if it just happens to be there, its hue is the perfect shade for this time of year.

Igualmente, lo que más llamó mi atención, fue el cruce del Río Ródano en su desembocadura, ya ingresando al Lago Leman. Habían unos puentes repletos de luces cual pasarela que una vez que empezabas a cruzar, empezabas a descubrir más y más carteles que gritaban ”¡Navidad!”.

Definitivamente esto y el cartel de Cartier, empapado de luces doradas, me dejaron estupefacta pero en el mejor de los sentidos. Aclaro que no sé si este color de Cartier es de siempre o si se colocó para la Navidad, pero si es casualidad que esté allí, su tono es el perfecto para esta época del año.

Better in the rain

The rain in this colorful cityscape also adds a touch of beauty, as it makes the surfaces of the walls and even the floor look shiny or wet, which makes the city's glow reflect everywhere.

It is better after the rain, because the same humidity delays the drying, and everything seems bathed in dew.

The details of the buildings also match this Christmas touch that permeates Geneva.

Mejor con lluvia

La lluvia en este paisaje urbano repleto de colores, añade además, un toque de belleza, ya que hace que la superficies de las paredes e incluso del suelo, brillen o tengan un aspecto húmedo, lo que hace que este brillo de la ciudad se refleje por doquier.

Es mejor tras la lluvia, pues la misma humedad hace que demore el secado, y todo parece bañado de rocío.

Los detalles de los edificios además, hacen juego con este toque navideño que impregna Ginebra.

I really liked to see the calmness of the people. While in Barcelona everyone was taking pictures, talking loudly, all crowded together going for the same thing, in Geneva I was one of the few people taking pictures of these Advent and Christmas details offered by the city.

In Geneva nobody was going crazy, on the contrary, the rhythm of the visitors is calm, peaceful, leisurely.

A great experience and more than recommended to visit Geneva at Christmas or rather, the weeks leading up to this holiday.

Me gustó mucho ver la calma que había en la gente. Mientras que en Barcelona todo el mundo estaba tomando fotos, hablando fuerte, todos amontonados yendo a por lo mismo, en Ginebra yo era una de las pocas personas que tomaba fotos a estos detalles de Adviento y Navidad que ofrecía la ciudad.

En Ginebra nadie andaba como loco, por el contrario, el ritmo de los visitantes es tranquilo, pacífico, pausado.

Una gran experiencia y más que recomendable visitar Ginebra en Navidad o mejor dicho, las semanas previas a esta fiesta.
