Vanity (poem)

In this world, our pursuits are but fleeting,
Observed by different eyes,
Echoes of our desires as its resonate,
But fall on deaf ears.

Truly, everything is for while,
Whether you hoard possessions for self-gain,
Or wield power to subjugate others.

If you choose malice as your path,
Know that all will cease one day,
Nothing is eternal,
Truly, everything is for a while, like chasing the wind.

If you could pick your folly, what would it be?
Riches, allure, success, or longevity?
Would you crave dominion or seek knowledge and insight?

All is fleeting,
A chasing after the winds,
We are mere sojourner here,
Look beyond this world's temptations.

Of all we amass,
Of all we acquire,
In the end, it's all transient.
A chasing after the wind.

If you're consumed by cruelty and covet life's pleasures,
Remember, it's all but temporary,
Death comes for us all,
No matter our stature or wealth.

When it arrives, it shows no favoritism,
No bribes sway its course.
In the end, we must answer its call,
Facing our creator, our deeds laid bare.

In the end, everything fades, just like chasing the wind
Everything is but a while.
Nothing last forever,
Just as we come, we are bound to leave one day.
