Day 872: 5 Minute Freewrite: Tuesday - Prompt: nail polish

It just wasn’t right, no matter how hard she tried. She sighed, frustrated but determined.

Why didn’t it look like the picture? Holding her nails up to the light, she saw that the edges were bleeding and the color was not as shiny. She had been so careful, but her version of effort did not bring about the same results. What she saw gave her the urge to throw the bottle away and just call for help.

But there was no way she’d do that. She had to figure this out it. On her one. She had to do it herself.

Her eyebrows furrowed. “I’m gonna do this.”

She twisted the cap and pulled it upward, and slowly moved the brush across her nails. There. This stroke looked right.

She did it again on the other edge. Spot not. Not a bleed in sight. Then she closed off the middle, but her hand moved a little too quickly to the side. And…there she did it again. Jagged edges. Color spilling onto her skin.

“I’m done with you.”

She slammed the cap back on the bottle. As she started to twist, the bottle slipped out of her hand and onto the carpeted floor.
