Scrambled Thoughts

After dealing with a deadbeat job for 19 years, I had taken the courage to move on. I was quite content on a new path to what I hoped, was a better life. Things had been going alright and the work was steady, but not enough to let go of one side job I wanted to keep. The plan was to use that to pay off debts sooner.
I made it to the one month mark and now seems things are not as they seemed. My work shift bounced around a lot for 2 weeks now. But that isn't a worry to me, as long as I was able to get hours. Our schedules are set for every 3 weeks. Suddenly, I noticed my hours went from 37-40 down to 31.5 (2 weeks from now.) I am not allowed to ask for more hours until I hit the 2 month mark, and where I'd be judged for performance. If they like my outcome, yay me. But, if they find something not to their liking, there may be no hope. So, it's a catch 22, per-say. I give my all no matter what, but to some it may not be enough.
Now, for the really scrambled thoughts!
I was on a call today, for over an hour, with a potential job offer. One that pays way more, but longer hours, lots of overtime, and if I end up being sick, I will still have to show up because I will be much needed.
Without much thought, beforehand, I filled out the application and sent it off. Here I sit, pondering relentlessly, if this new offer is truly worth it. The drive to the place is much much further than I'm content with. For the next 5-6 months, it would be a cakewalk weather-wise. Not so much during winter. Roads there get super hairy and so many accidents every year occur.
Is it worth the risk I'd be taking, for an extra $370 per week?
I just can't wrap my head around this. Like many, I also try to generate income another way. I'm just not very good yet at posting great content. To some, like me, it just takes practice. My main focus is keeping cash flow going, seemingly by sweating my ass off for someone else's benefit more than my own, which is what the working world contends with.
I can't believe that as we were kids, all we could think about was becoming an adult. Mostly so we didn't have to listen to anyone tell us what to do. Boy were we all ever wrong. They don't teach you in school that adulting has its crap moments.
Thank you for reading this to the end. Which would you choose? The downside, the offer was from a great friend who knew my predicament. Her boss asked if she knew anyone reliable, and I was the first one who popped up in her head. Either way, she will understand. Her boss, maybe will also, even though I had taken the time to fill it out and send it to their office.
Would be good if you could see how it goes with the first job before you have to give your decision to the second job. Calculate how much extra gas and car repairs you will have if you have have to "much further" to the new job.
Decisions, decisions! Not easy and sometimes we have to step out of our comfort zone even if we are fearful. Good luck either way! :)
Indeed it would, but this job I was offered doesn't come around often. I will average about 40 miles a day compared to what I have done the past month or so. But, the deadbeat job I had prior, I was pushing a lot more. The information I was told today while on a phone interview, made it a much bigger eye opener if I were to take it. I will go into details when I update on this post.

I'd usually say you're already in one situation and the other would be uncertain but it appears that this current job is also uncertain, for, as you said, quite a few things changed recently- first the shift then the hours, and after your probationary period there's still no guarantees.
An extra $370 a week is nothing to sneeze at, but of course, you'd have to weigh the costs to go further, not just on the vehicle but to you.

I agree, I'm definitely in a pickle if I stay at current job. I like the location, as it saves gas (5 min drive) and the new offer would be about 40 miles a day. I had a bit more info when talking with potential new boss, and it has so many perks, as much as a few sticklers. I told him I will let him know Friday what I decide.
