My biggest challenge
Sometimes, without a particular reason, when this infernal curve of mental state drops too low, when I am caught up in thoughts, everything around loses its sense. Everything that used to bring pleasure, interest, motivation, and delight, or even anger. In days like this my biggest challenge is to make myself wish at least something.
Of course, I remember all the tips and recipes. Cream cake, or a small talk, or a silly movie, or a walk. Sometimes it may take hours to get out of bed, put on some cloth and go out. Like it was 2 days ago. This is always a small win, even if I went to buy some food, but returned with empty bag because everything looks ... tasteless and senseless. Even so, a short walk makes a little difference.
Once, it used to be one of my favorites - WednesdayWalk challenge hosted by @tattoodjay. I really loved walking, searching for new places, discovering new corners in familiar yards.
It's been a while. This is my first walk since my life totally changed, and I have to thank my husband for it, because when we are together, the world around me becomes colored and alive again.
Nothing special, no destinations, just wandering around the city and watching the changes, or things that even time and war are powerless to change.
This was our secret passage that only very locals were awared.. Nick's office was in the courtyard.
This Piano is a street art object installed here many years ago. It took me ages to come here with camera and capture it. Obviously, I should have come here earlier.
City Bicycle track. As if often happens, a scandal has been associated with it, they wanted to close it, but in the end the public of the city won. Bicycle track continues to work. How good to see that life goes on.
This place changes its face (and tenant or owner) pretty often. Now, it's "Lila Cake".
Advertising of a cheese shop. A very good one, they have a lot of made in Ukraine.
The winged monster on the roof of the National Opera House. Looks like it might rain. Pfff, rain is the least of the problems.
A "pointer" or advertising of a military shop. Military and military-like stuff became extremely popular. Nick used to like them too, all this special green color, and camouflage. But he's not a big fan of them anymore.
You can pretend the life is back to previous, back to normal. But there's always a reminder that it's not.
This round stand is covered with Operetta Theater posters. I wonder if they are old or new?
Kyiv Passage. The street has many small outdoor cafés and shopping stores on the buildings' first floors and residential apartments on the upper floors.
The windows of premium brands' boutiques are covered with plywood shields, not because they were damaged by an explosion, but to protect against a possible explosion.
A street monument to famous architect W.Horodecki. He is best known for his contributions in the urban development of Kyiv.
And here it rained heavily. I didn't have an umbrella, so Nick and I hid under the arch. Luckily, I had a big pack of marshmallows.
Khreshchatyk street. I come here quite often, but this time I noticed something I hadn't seen before. A whole meadow of small blue and yellow flags. They are installed in honor of the soldiers who died defending their country from the Russians. Many flags are dedicated to foreigners. I often thing about foreigner people who had everything - homes, families, peaceful living without any danger, but they came to Ukraine to fight against injustice and evil. They are incredible. Your right, The war retreated from Kyiv, it looks peaceful and almost normal. Every day I look forward to news about at least one liberated city. We'll drive out the invaders, but sooner rather than later.

It's nice to see life is returning to cafes and shops, but now when I see them sometimes I think - they can be destroyed any moment.

Firstly I do not feel you need to apologize for upsetting us, you did not upset me, what is happening there with the Russian invasion is disgusting and what upsets me, but I think it is important for you to share your thoughts and feelings with us who are not experiencing it, it helps us to understand all be it in a small way how devastating this war is emotional affecting all the people of your country

I like your pictures a lot, also the way you’ve written your post is beautiful. I agree with you: even a short walk makes the difference.
It must be strange to walk all those streets and try to play normal, when things turned difficult even impossible so recently, but the important thing is that you are doing your best. It’s beautiful how you talk about your husband, how he paints your days in colors.

Nice city, Kiew. The Wednesday challenge seems to make fun, I really need to try it one day too. All the flags make me sad, when I think that someone had to die. But at least they are given some honor.

Don't apologise for expressing your feelings and bringing some awareness to the people that the war is not over.
They are beautiful spaces, if it is any consolation in my country there are neighbourhoods with horrible facades of poverty that look like there is war but nothing compares to the feeling of being in a real war.
The city can be beautiful or ugly, what makes the difference is the feeling of happiness of its inhabitants, and when there is war nobody can be happy.

There are poor quaters in every big city, I suppose. As well as chic. Same with people. This time, I wanted to share a peaceful face of the city, but of course we keep living with caution and with understanding that danger didn't gone. Kyiv region was shelling this morning. Russia will continue destroying our country until we stop it. And we will.

I'm glad that Kyiv doesn't affect by the war, I am wondering if the war already stopped since I notice that there's no military around. I am hoping for peace between Ukraine and Russia, the most affected here is the citizen since they are on the battlefield with no assurance they can survive.
If you follow the developments you'll realize that its not over, maybe in its final phase, maybe by the end of the year, yet all the while the Kiev regime sends troops into the meat grinder with nothing, no weapons, no support, not even armor or helmets, seemingly the Kiev regime wants to conquer Crimea, not only Donbass, that is what the Nazi are fighting for, for territory, for Crimea and Donbass.
The war started with bombing our cities, and Kyiv was hit on the very first day. Then, we lived under constant shelling more than a month.
Peace between Ukraine and Russia is impossible, because Russia's goal is to destroy Ukraine as a state and Ukrainians as a nation. They openly talk about it, and this is why they started it.
that's sad info, still, I'm happy that Ukraine keeps fighting until the spirit is still there since lots of countries are supporting Ukraine for this war. I'm hoping that it will end, maybe an initiation from Putin to declare a peace talk is one of the solutions to end the crisis.

It looks kind of peaceful but no doubt everyone can still feel they danger that shrouds be the city. Thank you for showing us around Kyiv so we can understand more about it. The meadow of flags is sad, but please don't apologize for it, the world needs to know how many have sacrificed and lost their life because of one maniac.
What is the other flag ?
The first 55 flags were installed by the relatives of the fallen defenders of Mariupol. Each inscription has a callsign and date of death. Other flags were added later. In the penultimate photo, flags are very similar to the modern chevron of the Azov Regiment, which has been in use since 2015. Eagle, and colors. They were men of steel...
My heart is aching when I think about their heroic defense, hearts of lions, fearless and strong, they stood for so long! And then they got the order to surrender, "to save their lives". In return, they received tortures and humiliation in captivity, in prison in occupied Olenivka, and then ... a treacherous death few days ago. They were promised to be released. UN, Red Cross... they are powerless and useless 💔😣☹
Maybe this is my sign to take a walk and clear my head. There are so many things happening in my life all at once and its overwhelming. So many different emotions and I still have to act normal. Your pictures gave me a feel as if I was really there.
