Wednesday Walk Challenge : Sentier du Marais, Lac Simon (Québec)

For this Wednesday Walk Challenge organized by @tattoodjay, I'm taking you to the Lac Simon Tourist Center in the Ouataouais region of Quebec. It's a campsite with a beautiful beach on the shores of Lac Simon. And from there, there are many trails for walking, including the Sentier du Marais (Marsh Trail).

Here's a map to help you locate the Centre Touristique du Lac Simon, which is in the village of Duhamel, about a 2h30 hour drive from Montreal. It usually takes a little longer, as there are plenty of nice places to stop, such as the Domaine du Mont-Vézeau winery or the Kissisam bakery.

DSC06500.JPG

The Sentier du Marais is a very easy walk about 1.1 kilometers long just outside the campsite in a stretch of forest wedged between lac Simon and the Petite Nation river. We're surrounded by water (and therefore mosquitoes, which is the only negative point of this walk* 😀 ).

On one side is a backwater of the Petite Nation River, on the other the pine forest.

Apart from the mosquitoes, I didn't encounter many animals as we're close to the campsite. Only a small black frog jumped in front of me and by the time I took a photo it had gone to hide under this branch 🔽. I'll let you look for it, very easy...

The sign to follow for this walk / Le petit panneau à suivre pour cette balade

There must be animals bigger than frogs living here... Do you have any idea which animal's bones?

DSC06523.JPG

The Petite Nation River flows into Lac Simon. On its banks, beautiful pine trees seem to want to plunge into the water to cool off. Some persons float down the river on large buoys, following the current. What's more, the start is close to a very good BBQ restaurant: Carbo (I enjoyed it). The perfect way to get back to the campsite 😀.

Let's continue our walk in the woods. There are quite a few trees on the ground, but from what this sign tries to explain, the decomposition of the trunks is important for the whole ecosystem. He'll be joining us soon 😀

Back on the Little Nation River. I saw a few people leisurely floating down the river on buoys. I think next time I'll do that, it's a physical activity I enjoy*.

I love the way this tree has grown, on top of an old trunk that must have decomposed over time.

For me, neither, the area was infected with mosquitoes.

We're back at the campsite with the Centre Touristique du Lac Simon's camping equipment, which looks very comfortable. I hope you enjoyed this walk on the Sentier du Marais. Have a great Wednesday Walk Challenge.

Beautiful walk around the campsite. 🏕️
Bones could be deer, but not sure of the size.
We found a lot of them a few weeks ago. Like big moose 🫎 and deer 🦌 bones, and decided… lets walk quickly further hahaha there were to many at that spot.
Have a great thursday 👋🏻😊

I also thought of a deer, but I wonder how they got there. I only saw its big vertebrae. Certainly not a shot of the little frog I saw just before 😀

Did you hear about the farmer that fed his chickens avocados?
All you could hear around there was “guac, guac, guac, guac.”

Nice #wednesdaywalk and looks like a nice campground. Cute trail marker for the Marsh Trail. Mosquitos are horrible here in Vermont right now, I feel your pain 🙂

With all the rain we've had this summer, the mosquitoes are in top form 😀 Unfortunately for us
