Our True Purpose: It's More Than Just Wealth and Success

Blue Simple Hello September Facebook Post_20241028_233432_0000.png

Have you read the story of the rich man in the Bible? The man who accumulated lots of wealth and properties but never had a purpose? All he ever cared for was himself alone without considering the poor and needy around him.

He thought he had worked so hard for years and the time to enjoy his effort has come. He began to analyse how he would spend his wealth, but unknown to him, his life would be taken that same night he had those thoughts. He had all plans of how to enjoy his wealth but never included generosity in his plan.

He never thought of what good deeds he could do in his community. All he ever cared for was himself and no one else. Who then owns those riches he had worked for all his life after he was gone?

The man died without fulfilling his purpose. To me, I feel the man got blinded by his wealth that he failed to see what his purpose was on earth. His name could have been spread across the nation if only he had showered love on people around him and done something tangible for the underprivileged. His name wouldn't have been wiped off the earth if he had shown great concern for the poor and needy, built a massive organisation and hired people to work there, etc.

He is an example of a prayer we would always pray that may we not come to earth and leave without fulfilling our purpose.

Every individual on this earth has a purpose he or she must fulfil. Just like a mother who gives birth to her kids, her purpose is to make sure they become responsible and not turn wayward. She must be present in every minute of their lives till they become grown up and walk in the ways they have been taught and trained.

It's not all about working and accumulating wealth. It's not all about going to school, passing all exams and coming out with a first-class degree and with distinction. It's not all about having a dream to become the greatest and renowned businessman and woman. That's not all about purpose.

Our purpose must transcend beyond ourselves alone but to others. Our purpose must be shown to others and not selfish with all we have. There is no beauty in one's life when you have attained a great feat and neglect the well-being of others around you.

If we must know, our purpose as individuals in life is to worship and love God with our hearts, souls and minds. The Bible then moves forward with a similar instruction of our purpose in life, which is to love our neighbour as ourselves. This is not about making this post spiritual; it is the truth here. If there is one purpose that covers all spheres of our life, career and future, it is to show love to God and to others.

It is when we love that we would be able to help those who need help. It is when we love, we would consider the safety of another person without inflicting them with pain. It is when we love, that we realise that our purpose is to be there for one another, giving generously and helping someone out to achieve what they intend to achieve.

There is nothing as meaningful as fulfilling your purpose through caring for humankind, making yourself available where needed and being supportive of someone who lacks in some areas.

When you are wealthy, you should understand that your wealth isn't for you alone, it is to build an orphanage home for the poor or create an opportunity for those seeking jobs. When you are rich, you will know how to support your community with what they need. When you have knowledge about something in your community, you should know that those who lack the knowledge should be educated and helped.

There is nothing we cannot do with the little resources at our disposal. This is something people will remember you for when you leave. Not fulfilling your purpose is when you know what to do and don't do it, especially when you have the strength, capacity and resources to carry it out.

A lot of people have been clouded by their resources, thinking it is all they have to live a good life but someone close to them is going through difficulties. If you don't help them, you aren't fulfilling your purpose.

Our purpose in life is to use what we have to glorify God and make people happy and satisfied instead of being selfish with it. I also feel that wherever we may find ourselves, we should be observant of the environment where we are, and when we do, we should understand what our purpose could be especially when we pray to God to lead and guide us.

If one person decides to help another person grow purposefully, then the world would be a better place, and life would be meaningful.
Let's live a purposeful life by helping others around us.

Your opinion is so thoughtful, thank you for sharing!

That is very right. A life of purpose is when we help others too and not just for ourselves alone. Thank you for coming around.

You are very correct sis. Man's purpose is not just to accumulate wealth bit to also be able to distribute it to as many as have needs. Sadly that is what humans are doing... amassing riches and more riches without any form of distribution.

A stagnant river will soon become stale and smelly, this is a proverb I have come to learn and truly it is only a flowing river that stays fresh.

Exactly. I have heard that Proverbs too. Of what use is your wealth and not distributing it? Why working to feed yourself alone? That's not life. We need to understand our purpose isn't meant for us alone but for others.
