Where Have All the Good Lyrics Gone?

One of the reason why I love Ed Sheeran is the fact that he’s not a shit artist. He puts so much effort in his music and you can attest to the fact that none of his songs has been a flop since he started his music career. I love music, and I’m very picky with the kind of music I listen to. When I hear a trash song, I know is just by the introduction of the song. First two lines and I’m done with that song. As the Ghanaian adage says , Agoro bɛ sɔ a, ɛfire anopa which translates into if a play is going to turn out well, it will be obvious from the morning.

Music doesn’t have to be boring and no one loves to listen to a song that doesn’t sound pleasing to their ears. Over the years, the music industry has diversified into different fields. Now, even politicians are incorporating music in their campaigns which should tell you how important music is. But, in recent times, there has been a drastic rise in profane music. Out of a hundred songs, you’d only find about 5 of them with little to no profane words. Maybe, that’s what the people of today want. But then, we ought to remember that the world is not filled with the old alone. We have kids and they constitute to a larger part of the population.

Today, our kids in schools can sing and dance to profane songs from Chris brown and many others. They even go to the extent of incorporating the actions in the music videos in their interactions with their peers. Is this what we wish for our kids to learn in school? Obviously not. But then again, if we accept these kinds of music being brought out to us, how would these artistes know that we don’t really wish for mainly profane songs for the sake of the younger generation.

Moving on, some songs are extremely boring and you instantly know that no effort was kept in writing the lyrics. Because tell me why the whole song is the same sentence all over again. I don’t even know which artiste to use but you know what I’m talking about. There’s literally nothing special and captivating about some songs. It’s just the same thing all over and over again for a while 5 minutes or more. Waste of resources! And funny enough, these songs are those that get the most publicity. Are you thinking what I’m thinking?😂
Humans are weird I guess.

Music has grown to be an integral part of our lives today and we as individuals should push for music which is impactful and beneficial to us. Not those that have negative or no impact on us at all. No matter the artiste, we the listeners should be able to say no when we do not like this or that song, regardless of who they are and their reputation.
I hope you enjoyed reading this, thank you for your time.

It's dishearting to see music quality decline by the day, unlike we use to have good music that carries great messages that impact lives, reverse is the case mostly now.

The messages of the songs are felt in different ways by those who listen to them, but they all have their meaning
