Tip me or nah? The limites of right and wrong in the two extremes.
Another thing was remarkable during that co-worker's lunch in the restaurant cited in a post this week, more specifically during the payment. Usually, when we receive the credit card machine in here, we confirm the value that the waiter gave us, then it goes to the next stage of the machine where we select the tip, which usually we find 3 levels, such as 15%, 18% and 20% or customized, which we can select anything. After selecting it, we receive the total amount and finally pay it. But this time was different, I didn't have the option to select the tip. But after I paid I saw that it included an 18% tip. what happened?
I discussed with my co-workers and they said that in some places if there is a big table with more than 10 people they add this policy of a mandatory 18% tip. I understand that usually, big tables are trickier to pay attention to, but is it fair to force a tip on the customer? Well, if it is the policy of the place I wish I knew it before, because I felt a bit deceived. There isn't a law establishing a mandatory tip here, but also a place that can warn the customers before they have the service about something different. Usually, it is normal to pay 15%, if you think the service was beyond what was expected, you can add to 18% or 20%.
Some restaurants and bars also exploit their employees and the tips are important for them in a way that their base salary is bad and the tip is part of their salary that gives them a normal life bringing food home and paying bills. However, on the other hand, we see fancy restaurants where when you are going to pay you don't find the 15% option...only 18% and beyond. In this case, I feel a bit forced to go through one of these choices. In this case, I go to the custom bottom to do a 15% choice by myself. And usually, when you are paying 15% in a fancy restaurant it is already a big chunk of tip that you are giving since you didn't spend below 100$. So for sure, these guys are getting more per hour in tips than my regular salary.
Restaurants should give better conditions for their workers and make them not to depend on tips to survive, also there are some stories that the owner gets part of the tip as well which is not nice. Tips should never be forced on the customer in addition. Customers are paying what they consumed plus the taxes and the tip shouldn't be considered another "tax". It is a way to say that you are doing good job and I appreciate your service. I was a worker who used to get tips when delivering some food, and I usually got mad at customers who didn't add any tips. You make a huge effort to be cordial and do a good job and don't get tip it makes you question "what I did wrong".
Tips are usually a social agreement, I totally hate people who decide to remove a tip just because they have the mentality that only the employer is the one that should be their employee. However, forcing bigger tips or even making them mandatory is something that I don't digest well since it also becomes unfair. So like everything else, the balance is in the middle, where you give some reward for a good service but also don't get ripped off.

force tips is dumb in my opinion, i already pay the stuff, you can't force me for extras. here we don't have this, if you want to tip you leave what you want, if it was forced, no one would go anymore to restaurants rofl
That is how I feel, I won't go anymore to this type of place. They take advantage of people who are naive!
I agree with you that tips should be volunteer when laws don't command it, but as far as I have a sister who is waitress I know that some places make a common box to save tips and daily they distributes the tips even with the kitchen personal and managers, not just for the saloon employees.

You are correct!! I forgot to mention! I think most of the places are like that. But still, it can be forced right? I only noticed after paying, my luck is that my bill wasn't so big, so probably I paid an extra 5$ maximum.

Yes, restaurants shouldn't force to costumers to pay an extra tip if it is not mandatory. There are others cases when a expensive restaurant put in the check the cost of "Cubiertos" that is more wire 😆 what they include in this concept?

@gwajnberg! @ladyaryastark Totally agrees with your content! so I just sent 1 IDD to your account on behalf of @ladyaryastark.
I am tipped out... I hate tipping... It seems like everyone wants a tip for everything and it's ridiculous. Businesses should pay employees better so they wouldn't need tips. Sigh... I guess I'm becoming more and more cantankerous the older I get!

They have 3/400 DOOK left to drop today.

Here they decide to ask tip for everything, haircuts, massages, even taxi drivers.
I only keep the restaurant tip which I think is important. Or food delivery if I use it of course. The delivery fees are so expensive in here, I prefer always going to the place to pickup food hehehe.
But always when I go to the barber shop I skip the tipping, the same if I pay with CC a taxi.

Interestingly, I recently found out that the United States generates over 40 billion dollars every year from tipping. That's really crazy.
Well, I dont think tipping should be mandatory. If you want to do it, do it. If you don’t, then don't.
Depending of the reataurant is much bettwr compared to a regular job! Of course that if you work in a fast food you will suffer
Hmmm, why Should the restaurant charge you a mandatory 18% tip without prior notice? That's unfair if you ask me at least if u had the info, you will conveniently take your decision. Tips shouldn't be mandatory but a voluntary action if I am pleased with the service received and if I really have enough with me to tip.
Really some people are just too good with their job that after their service, I am moved to tip them but let no one force me!
Yep not even people in the table didnt know much about it as well 😂
I feel cheated on you guys behalf 😃
I think tipping is not bad but it's also unfair to taking tip forcefully from customers. Sometimes I feel it would be better if there were no tipping system.
