People Being People.
It’s funny the kind of response and reactions we see these days, people do terrible things to make money and they’re proud of it. That is fairly normal in an ecosystem that prioritizes gains over ethics. However, one main issue is how others come to jump to their defense and ask you to mind your business when you call it out.
Many times, these defenders go as far as telling you to call your government to order because what they’re doing is no different. Just on a much smaller scale. When you read messages like this, it terrifies you because it makes you wonder where exactly we’re all going as a people.
One typical example of this attitude is how many of us have come to embrace fraud. Even though we might not do it personally, we know people we can point at that clearly do it but we can’t do anything about it because we’re “minding our own business”. But then, will it even make any difference? Especially when you know that after “settling” the cops, they’ll be right back out.
When you speak against it, people tell you to mind your business and talk to the government instead who are also stealing from the masses. Sometimes, I wonder how people cope with being close friends with fraudsters, how do you guys cope? It’s just like being a bestie with an armed robber, I’ll never be able to sleep in the same house with them with both eyes closed. And for my fraudulent friends, everything about them would be suspect. Something as simple as wanting to use my phone’s flashlight would get me on guard at once.
But then, people come online to defend them. Many people say that they go into fraud because there are no jobs, but the truth is many people started fraud even before they ever needed jobs. A lot of the fraudsters today never actually went in search of a job, they simply decided not to find one and worked with the general idea that there are no jobs, and as such it’s enough reason to turn to a life of crime.
One that’s even more pathetic was one I came across on my Facebook timeline today. I saw a video where people were using bowls to fill up bottles with water. The water was from a large basin, and they were using this filthy cloth to filter the water. The bottles had the wrappers of notable bottling companies in the country, and they were all filled up and sealed. These were then sent out to be sold at a cheaper rate.
This is the kind of thing people are doing to their fellows. The water that they put into the bottles, we have no idea where they come from. The cloth they use to filter, we have no idea when it was last washed. The water could be loaded with bacteria, cholera, and even typhoid. Besides, the environment where they were doing all this was wet, dirty and I presume smelly.
But guess what, when I went through the comments of that post, a lot of people were defending them. They said that the people were only doing what they had to do to survive, and everyone had to mind their business because the government was the bigger problem. As in, I’ve never been more shocked than I was when I went through those comments.
People could actually die from drinking that water, cholera is a very deadly disease. There are so many diseases one can contract just from drinking the wrong kind of water and depending on your immune system, it can range from a mild inconvenience to something that’d force you to stay at the hospital for months. Hell, it could even lead to death.
It’s crazy, really. And people don’t care. They’d rather the people continue their illegal business and keep putting lives in danger. Personally, I feel that people endorse crime only because they’ve not fallen victim to it before. There’s nothing about getting defrauded that will ever make you feel good. You might be a billionaire, but getting scammed of a mere 10k would really hurt you. Many times, it’s not about the money, it’s about how you allowed it to happen. How you got played.
Until many people actually experience this, they’ll keep endorsing crime. Maybe when they pack all their savings and give it to one guy acting under a fake name, or they drink water that’ll make them spend millions in the hospital, maybe then they’ll know why these crimes are dangerous.
But then, that’s what Adulting 102 is all about; the realization that no one really cares about you. As long as it’s not happening to them, then it’s not all that bad.
I agree with this. I somehow hate how the people take advantage of things just because they have the power.
Yesso... That's one thing we're struggling with today.
I hope that one day everything will be fixed and everyone must be given an opportunity to fight for their rights. Let's pray for it.
I so so agree with this. There is a neighbor of mine I no longer speak to apart from greeting because of this. She always find excuses to defend these people including yahoo boys. I ones told her this just like you stated
Until she experience this she would mind what she support.
Yeah, for them, it's all good and fine because they don't know how it feels like to be a victim.
Yeah, true.
It is a fact that today's people are only engaged in making money, they have forgotten that from where the money is coming, this method is wrong or right, and it is also a fact that within today's time only A person who earns money has respect.
Yeah... the society has made money so important and as a result, it's the driving force behind so many evil machinations by people.
There is quite so much pressure in the society nowadays trust me that is pushing a lot of people to do things they themselves will not have imagined they will do years ago. So much pressure, if you are not spending to a particular rate, no matter what you do, you are seen as a poor fellow
I will say the society contributes to people doing things outside the box
That's the thing, people are under so much pressure to make it at a certain age. It's simply not fair.
Absolutely
I think most of the time, it can be likely to the peer pressure which the society is always offering to the youth nowadays most especially making use of the social media

Thank you for this.
It’s crazy how girls are so happy and proud of dating yahoo boys. It’s unreasonable and I think people still do not understand the fact that you can work online and even earn more than yahoo boys without engaging in fraud
That’s just the truth
We really need to do better. There's no other choice.
This statement always trigger me "Mind your own business".
Survival is the main thing for everyone and everyone try to be "right". Right in their own eyes and they have their own definition for "right". For instance, a thief can be right too, you only have to see him through his eyes. [ I am not defending them 😆]
Yeah... everyone has their reason for doing what they do. They have their own justification for engaging in crime, but if you hear it, it'll never be enough justification.
Doing crimes or illegal thing is a choice in my opinion. In very few cases it has been seen that people forced to choose wrong way. So I don't think blaming government for it seems illogical in most cases. A fraud will always be a fraud and don't deserve to be a friend of general people.
People will blame the government when they're the ones making life hard for their neighbors. What a joke.
