Coffee and small details
My first working day started just a few days after the new year. My vacation did not last as long as I wished it would, but at least I had a little time off to reorganize some ideas and rest my mind. I had to travel to the city of Maturin-Venezuela, almost 61 kilometers from my home, to try to deliver some reports. I slept in the city, so I drank neither my usual cup of coffee in the afternoons nor my usual cup of coffee in the evenings. The next day I woke up almost out of energy, with a bit of a headache and no desire to get out of bed. The first thing I did, after taking a bath, was to go to the nearest coffee shop. After hours without tasting coffee, I managed to do so, and the best thing about it was that my morning was immediately brightened up.
The coffee shop I visited was merged with a bakery; not the kind of place I usually visit, but the urgency of the moment led me to make some sacrifices. It was a nice place, though. It smelled of fresh candy and vanilla. There were desserts of all kinds, from puff pastries to succulent cakes. I avoided them, as I don't usually eat that much sugar in the morning. I just ordered a plain, bitter coffee, as I needed to shake that haggard feeling out of my body. Furthermore, I admit that the attention they gave me was pretty good. I was served the coffee in a disposable container, as I asked for it myself; I really couldn't stay that long, so drinking it in a cup was not a good option.
The girl who served me was alarmed when I asked her not to add sugar to the coffee. She smiled as I explained that I was doing it because I hadn't had coffee since the day before, and my body needed it to be bitter. In the end she handed me the coffee hotter than I imagined, and wished me luck, as she said it was quite concentrated.
While I was drinking my coffee, I realized that sometimes I am a little demanding when buying a coffee, because I like the small details, from the presentation of the cup to the table where I sit. This time it was different, because the circumstances in which I found myself forced me to look for a coffee without so many protocols. I believe that sometimes it is all about our own perception; the best sensation is that the coffee is delicious, and at least for me, that the place where I drink it is at least quiet. This time I learned that some of the best moments drinking coffee are not planned, but depend on our own need (XD).
Drinking coffee, in unexpected circumstances, was something I enjoyed. Normally, I plan before visiting a coffee shop, either because of reviews or recommendations from their customers. Drinking this coffee helped me release my anxiety, especially after an unexpected workday and at the beginning of the year.
Have you ever had to drink coffee in a way that is different from your habits?
Small details are important when it comes to drinking coffee, as I have always said; however, there are times when, due to life circumstances, we must break with certain habits, without this break going beyond the limits, of course. The best secret, in any case, is to enjoy a good coffee... as long as the coffee is delicious, the rest of the things can be ignored. Anyway, for me there is nothing better than being at home and enjoying a cup of coffee in my own comfort; sometimes this is impossible, but all is not lost.
Somehow, coffee comes, even if it is unexpected or unplanned.
