A few edible Boletus mushrooms and my 12th PUD

Friday, 1st of December 2023 [103]

Where did the whole of November go? Or rather where did 2023 go? I’m really unsure, but I remember it rather vaguely. Nonetheless the last month of this weird year has arrived and with it the countdown to Christmas and New Year.

Today was meant to be a productive day of writing and house works. I did a little bit of the latter, but not much of the former. I was trying to decide whether to write about mushrooms for #FungiFriday community by @ewkaw or Power Up Day and since I couldn’t decide, it turns out I’ll be writing about both!

Let’s start with a cute Porcini (Prawdziwek) from the cover of this post. I didn’t find many of those this year, but then again, I wasn’t in the forest as often as in previous years.
Porcini mushroom is by far the most wanted of all the mushrooms I forage for. I have a place where these grow every year, but I must say there is always a fight between me and the squirrels for those cuties.

The one I was lucky to find was only slightly eaten by them. Sometimes the only reason why I find a Porcini is because I notice tiny white pieces of it scattered on the forest floor. The naughty squirrels bite pieces of it and leave them around. They’re ever so wastefull those squirrels!

Other forest creatures are no better. They always munch on the mushrooms and never satisfied with one, but rather munch a piece of each one they come to contact with 😉

Finding untouched edible mushroom is almost a miracle with this behavious of forest creatures. I’m not sure what these are called in English, but my auntie calls them ‘Podgrzybki’ in Polish. They’re from boletus family and pretty much second best after the fat legged Porcini mushrooms.

Depending on the condition of those partly eaten mushrooms as well as their tastiness level I either leave them be or pick them up and just cut the eaten piece of it. That’s what I decided to do this this guy - Kozak in Polish.

This one decided to grow to the side rather than up. I do like it when they grow in unusual ways - they make for a pretty pictures 😉

All in all it wasn’t the most fruitful trip that day in October. I think I was walking to the forest earlier in the summer, before there were many mushrooms and then later in the fall, after most were gone. I still have many more captures to share with you guys in the next few Fridays, but not many to eat 🤷🏻‍♀️

This will be the end of the mushrooms part and now let’s move on to the Power Up part.

Today is the 12th time I participate in Hive Power Up day, although last month I only Powered Up, but didn’t write my PUD post. This morning I have Powered Up 30 Hive:

Which brings my total HP to 1953 HP. Not far to my second, round thousand on Hive 😁

As I write this, I realised I will get one more payout before this Power Up Day is over, so maybe I’ll manage to top it up to 50 HP, which will give me a litghtly bigger bee. That’s actually one of those things that maybe not all of you know about.

You don’t need to power up your hive in one go. Every hive you Power Up during the 1st of each month counts towards the PUD amount and the total of those power ups will decide how big will be your BEE this month. For now I can see a question mark bee 😉

For those of you who might be new to Power Up Day - there are prizes for participants and I’m happy to be one of the sponsors for the lucky numbers 7 and 27. I find great pleasure when I see familiar faces landing on one of those numbers 😁

If you are not familiar with #HPUD check out @traciyork ‘s post here

In short, the requirements to be considered for the prizes are:

That will be it for today. Happy HPUD and weekend everyone 🥳

Until next time 💙

Awesome mushrooms and a power up in one. My mushroom journey will have to wait until spring here (April/May). I feel I have told you this before, hehe !LOLZ 🤔 maybe time has went by too fast..

I too waited shortly for a pay out to happen prior to powering up. It was a nice one, actually my biggest payout of the month 😁 Happy HPUD Monika hope everything is going well. I'm battling a nagging cold now for a week but it has allowed me to write more than normal because I have time. Take care 💙 and enjoy your weekend 👠👠

But hey ho, at least I get to see lots of fish instead. That keeps you busy enough on top of all your busy schedule 😁

Oh, so sickness got you off your busy schedule! Sometimes it happens just at the right time to stop ourselves from firing on all cylinders 😉 Happy that you had a nice payout just in time to Power Up some more! I forgot I set mine’s to 100% HP, so all went straight into my stash 😁

Ohoo, that second mushrooms, with yellow of inside is so cool. It's unique too. Or is that normal on a mushroom?

Anyways happy Hive Power Up Day (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)

Haha 😂 It’s not super rare, but this season I saw not that many mushrooms as usual, so everything seems unique 😉
