Fish farming-a means of livelihood in my locality

Hi guys, it's a pleasure being here, I'm delighted to be amongst people whose love for nature and Agriculture spurs them up to make researches and put into writings, tips to help us grow agriculturally.

I smiled when I stumbled on , a place where I can freely air out my opinions concerning agriculture. I immediately clicked the subscribe button and here I am.

I actually want to start my journey in this community by sharing my views on one aspect of agriculture and that's Fish farming

With all sincerity, I've noticed that fish breeding has become rampant in my locality over the past two years. I keep wondering, why so rampant? Thought it was stressful and labour intensive, not until my friend went into the business and this has contributed to my frequent visits to her place...smiles

During an interview with my friend, I got to know that just one specie of fish breeds well over here, it endures tough time and doesn't die easily reducing the losses. Do you know which specie that is? Of course, it's catfish

Like other creatures, catfish survives in a clean fresh water and likes food ehhhhnnnnn, I watch them spend most of their time picking their meals like their lives depend on it.... it's fun you know. Catfish eats feed similar to dry flakes and they're usually sprinkled on the water surface.

The feeds are usually of sizes, the fingerlings eat usually smaller ones due to their mouth size while the adult fishes swallow larger feeds.

Catfish like other fishes are reared from the scratch as fingerlings, they're tended and cared for until they're matured enough to be sold. They mature between the range of 2-3 months of which she sales the out to caterers, restaurants, hotels, companies and makes quite huge amounts of money.

You all can now see with me the reason why fish farming is actually embraced by all and sundry in my locality, no too much stress, with enough food they're good to go.

There are some steps to good fish farming, especially the catfish specie which helps reduce high mortality rate and of course healthy mature fishes. That I'll gladly share with you on my next visit, don't be in a hurry, it's a gradual step to learning. Anticipate my next visit, and that's gonna be sooner.
