As anticipated in my post actifit and exhaust, yesterday I cycled up to Stazzema and descending I turned in Cardoso direction, following backward the course of the river that descends through the Seravezzino Valley.

Cardoso: A Jump into the Past

Cardoso is a place at the foot of the Apuan Alps that can be reached starting from Versilia Zone. Unfortunately, he became famous for a tragic event that happened 24 years ago, on June 19, 1996. On that day, a pouring rain devastated the whole area and after six hours of continuous thundershowers, the banks broke and the river invaded the inhabited center. To give you an idea, the authorities counted about 500 landslides between Cardoso and the surrounding mountain area.

Yesterday in Cardoso he remembered precisely that event and passing from there I wanted to leave the mark of my visit by taking some photos that today I show you during my article.

Several families lost loved ones due to the hydrogeological disaster and their names were carved in the memory of the inhabitants of Cardoso and not only: while entering the church, a kind gentleman motioned me to approach the floral ornament placed in the center of the nave where were the names of the people who suffered the dramatic consequences of that day.
