Enjoying Colenak Traditional Food
I'd like to introduce you guys to a traditional dish from my place. Maybe this dish will be similar in your place, then please feel free to leave a discussion in the comment section, I look forward to it.
So, a while ago, my friend and I went to a beach, we ordered coffee and two snacks. Vegetable spring rolls and Colenak.
COLENAK
I didn't look up the regional origin of this coolenak. Some sources say it's from West Java, but others also mention Central Java, perhaps these two regions have identical food with different names. Colenak is made from TAPE. TAPE is cassava that is fermented with yeast. After nailing, the entire surface of the cassava will be covered with yeast, then stored for several days by covering it in a tightly closed container.
However, we are discussing tape as the base ingredient of colenak. At first, the tape is shaped and flattened, then grilled in a low flame until some of the surface is browned. After that, you can arrange the roasted tape in a serving container. Then, what about the toppings? The topping is called UNTI. Unti is roasted kelap which is then mixed with palm sugar.
The combination of sweetness and flavour but the sweet is slightly sour, very delicious. Eating unti while still warm with hagat tea is perfect. Especially if it happens to be a rainy day.
For spring rolls, there are of course many versions in different countries with various fillings. I ordered it to balance between Colenak which tends to be sweet and Spring Roll which is more savoury.
The spring rolls I ordered were fried spring rolls with vegetable filling as usual, for dipping, chilli sauce was provided. Lumpia is of course suitable to eat in any weather, even when it's very hot. I enjoyed the day by the beach accompanied by these two delicious traditional snacks.
How was it? Are any of them similar to your place? Or are there more unique variants with the same basic ingredients? Let's share!
Hi, I am the child of the universe, I like to read books with various genres. I was born in the city of batik but can't draw batik yet. I want to be a novelist, but my works are only short poems that are included in anthology books.
