π΄ββ οΈ Shopping Trip With My Mom β Pirate's Dream In Englewood, Florida π¦
My mom recently took me to see a very interesting and bizarre gift shop named "Pirate's Dream" near her home in Placida, Florida.
π΄ββ οΈ Pirate's Dream Is Easy To Miss π΅οΈββοΈ
Β Β Β As I write this post I've actually already left Florida and arrived in Kentucky, now Indiana in my former hometown. However, I haven't had time to post, but I still aim to keep things in chronological order, and here we are during my last few days in Florida with my mom. I wanted to get some nick-nacks for the family back in Cambodia, and this shop was the perfect place to visit for such things.
Β Β Β This shop appears to be a home from the outside, and there are no major signs indicating what's inside. There are however an abundance of small signs and other curiosities outside the store that cause you to at least slow down for investigation.
Β Β Β I noticed a concrete pirate, a fake shark's head, and some interesting murals on some repurposed walls surrounding the parking lot area. Before going inside I walked along the bike path in front of the shop and snapped a few more pics, fully intent upon this becoming Hive content.
Β Β Β I noticed a sign for a free coconut necklace, so I made a mental note and wondered if I would receive my free bounty. Arrrggg!!!! We're going in matey.....
Monkey-B's Dream π
Β Β Β My youngest daughter @sakana, aka Monkey-B, likes all things tiny, especially jars, marbles, and anything that could be used for making tiny food or potions. If she were a part of this shopping trip, she likely could've spent a thousand dollars that she doesn't have. I did get her a few micro things to help with potion and cooking quests, can't go home empty-handed after all.
Β Β Β So many different rocks and gems, my girls would've loved this experience, such a shame bureaucracy and government ineptitude has keep this impossible for so many years. Well, at least for now I can collect some treasures to take back to Cambodia.
King Cobra-ppropriate π
Β Β Β When I saw tiny little animals carved from polished stones, I figured these would be nice little treasures for the kids. To see a king cobra shocked me, but since on two occasions king cobras have launched themselves at our tuk-tuk, I think it's an appropriate purchase. Perhaps this stone cobra will keep the real ones away.
Β Β Β We got a few necklaces and things, but already I've forgotten which one was designated for each of my ladies, so I guess I'll have to let them fight or duel over it.
Β Β Β I passed on the shark tooth necklace, assuming they were too manly for the kind of jewelry that is acceptable in Cambodia.
Snow Globes βοΈ
Β Β Β I was surprised to see that snow globe technology hasn't changed much since I was a child. Just seeing them brought back lots of childhood memories even though I'm not sure if I ever owned one. I do remember picking up many of them in stores through the years and giving them a swirl.
Β Β Β There were lots of sea turtle trinkets there too, not surprising considering Florida is home to lots of sea turtle nesting sites.
Economy In Decline π
Β Β Β After checking out and heading back to the car, I walked across the street to take a picture of an abandoned strip mall. There are lots of locations like this, and the sight of real estate not being used saddens me. It just seems so wasteful to think just because the rent is too high that no economic activity will take place here. Anyhow, that's it for now, I'll try to catch up to posting in real time before I head back to Cambodia.

Epic! I probably won't spend anything more than an ice cream or a cup of coke though. I know this kinda stuff will end up at my rack collecting dust for years until the home minister make an ultimatum to throw it away or throw me away.
I know of this problem, I am like you, less stuff is an easier life ultimately, However, the kids like to feel special and get something from far away regardless of size or value, so I try to buy as many cheap small things as possible, then I can use the items for corruption when back in Cambodia, such as bribing the kids to wash dishes or stop fighting.
What an interesting store. I would probably break down and make a necklace in there just because.
Please tell me you looked and saw what is behind the word "coconut." What other kinds of necklaces do they give away?
It looks liked the previous style of necklace was "Make America Great Again" ππ€£. It was full of typical Florida tourist stuff, but I haven't seen stuff like this since I was a kid, so it brought back a flood of memories.
I wish I could over there with you one day. We miss you π
Someday I think it can happen, I hope and pray we can defeat the US Immigration process.
Don't remember ever having read about those events.
Did you share them on Hive?
I'm not sure if I ever mentioned it, but all occasions have happened on the highway in the national park. I always laughed at the Indian videos of this stuff thinking it could never happen in Cambodia.
Haha! Now that's an angry snake
or, perhaps, a suicidal one
and a nice reflex of the biker
Did it end up underneath the car? I'm curious whether it survived and reached the other side of the road or not.
Guess we'll never find out.
On all occasions I made sure to catch the snake in the rearview mirror because I'd hate to find it hidden in the tuk-tuk. This particular video was almost exactly how it happened to me on the moto. Going uphill and with only 90cc of power, and after braking a bit, it could've easily outran the moto and bit me after the miss.
I get that. I am happy to know that there's hardly a dangerous snake to find in Portugal. We literally have one type of viper that could get you intro trouble and I only heard one story of someone who had to get a leg amputated. Most people say the snakes are not dangerous, out here.
Nevertheless, I still get a tiny scare when I see them near me ( most often in the river, while swimming )
I feel being scared of a legless big creature/ reptile is pretty much our instinct.
π¦
Glad you managed to evade the snake attack ;<)
Funny I am back in Cambodia now, but when I was in Indiana I ran over a timber rattler near my mom's house, one of three or four super venomous snakes we have in southern Indiana. Seems venom is attracted to me in 2023. Let's all hope for a snakebite lifetime π€.
edit(?): snakebite free lifetime
Welcome back buddy. Must be a huge relief to return to Cambodia and your wife and daughters.
Dino hug!
Haha, perfect mistake, I am running low on sleep still and didn't notice that. Still waking up at 2am and going to bed at 5pm. Thanks my man, hope to get caught up on Hive soon and that includes your blog too.
No worries, buddy. I get it :>)
Hope you get over the jet lag soon.
Big hug!
It seems that you enjoyed the last few days in Florida with your mom :) For sure your family in Cambodia missing you so much :) Keep safe! :)
I am already missing my mom in Florida and of course my family back in Cambodia too.
Had such a wonderful visit with you. That store is all the grand kids favorite place to go. οΏΌ there are so many little treasures in there. οΏΌ
I had so much fun, wish it could've lasted a little longer.
!LOL I wish I could do that so that I don't have to scroll back too far for pictures and because I remember the more recent events better. But most of the time I pick a topic that keeps me excited or because of a theme that day.
Oh and those shark tooth necklaces are so cool!

I am already having to google the names of towns and places we went, short term memory I guess. I regret not buying a bunch of shark teeth, they would've been easy to sell to the men back in my village in Cambodia.
