Utilizing My Land:: Management for Maximizing Yield in Cassava and Maize Farming

Hello great people, its a pleasure to be here in the community for the first time as i was introduced to the community by a friend of mine who is also into agriculture farming as for me i have been in this for a long period of time but I never knew there is a community that promote it which is why i was happy to be here and writing in it. Let's proceed in the post of the day which is talking about how i prepared a land for my cassava and maize planting, also the care for it to Maximise the yield.

First of all studying an agricultural course was a boost for me because it made me had lot of ideas of others who we are into it together and since we are talking about project here, we were given plots of land to grow plant but lot of preparation must be made to utilize the nutrient present in the soil, not just any type of soil can be grown in a certain land because of their type of soil. The first was that i plough the land using a tractor then applied poultry manure in other to make the soil very rich for any kind of plant that is grown on it.

Since we are already in the raining season, it is best time to grow maize plant because it requires lot of water for it to yield well and using the standard spacing for planting the maize so that it can have enough space for weeding, there was no bed for planting the maize crop because it was not needed, so not only did i make maize my only crop to plant, i had to prepare some ridges for another type of crop to be planted which is the cassava, that is the best way to grow a cassava using ridges because it is a root crop and it does not require a very hard land so the harvesting will be made easy during cultivation.

The maize used 5 days before sprouting out after planting the seed but not all came out the same time even though it was planted the same time and not all had fast growth, the maize didn't take much months to grow fast but since cassava is not a crop that germinate fast, it requires time to grow well, the maize is always been cared for by removing the weed around in other not to affect the growth of the plant and cause retardation. I hope after the whole germinating the maize plant and cassava will grow so well and yield better fruit for consumption. As a farmer, regular check up on what you plant is compulsory because weed is always there to compete and for a land which manure has been added will surely give higher percentage for weed to take over when not checked upon every now and then.

Preparing the land is very important to maximize yield in cassava and maize farming. Then you have to take care of it in time. Nice work! Keep it up!
