How To CREATE THE BEST Way To Support Your Tomato Plants
What Is THE BEST Way To Support Tomato Plants?
How To Create The BEST WAY to support your Tomato Plants!
I use the Florida Weave to support my tomato plants, without damaging the stems. Tying off a plant risks cutting the stem and damaging it. The Florida Weave allows the wind to move the plant, supporting it but not cutting off the stem. My gardens are in New England, zone 6b/7a.
Tomato Cages are rarely tall enough and lack the support. Single stakes can become unwieldy, often also cutting into stems. There are many ways to support your tomato plant, and it will only take you a moment or two watching this video, to learn the BEST way forward for an amazing tomato plant and a fantastic Harvest!
...and of course, if you SHARE the Video, too! MANY Thanks!
And that makes me smile... better for the planet, better for my own family.

Wonderful!
I have tomatoes and have been struggling to have them get the airflow and support they need. I have been using caves until they outgrow the top, then put a stake down through the middle for tethering.
Now I have to try this method!
For more airflow on INdeterminate Plants (not ROMA-type/San Marzano/Plum, etc), you can use SHARP GARDEN SHEARS and cut off the bottom branches, definitely the ones that are anywhere NEAR the soil. It really does help with disease, too
I will try this one, thank you.
Currently I am using old shoestrings !LOLZ

I have used some odd things, too, in my time.
Interesting. I like this approach. We have cages right now and they take up so much space. This looks more elegant. And effective 👍
what I like, is, I can use one stake per four or 6 plants, and the cages, if my past growing is any experience, are only about half as tall as I need them to be. What part of VT are you in?
Central Vermont. Kind of weird area though... not Champlain Valley and not Green Mountains. Foothills I guess. But weather pattern is different than Champlain Valley or Green Mountains.
It is important to take into consideration what you mention to take care of tomato plants, I have never harvested, but maybe I can try. Let's see if my land meets the ideal conditions.
Good soil, and water are really the two most important. I hope you find a way to plant at least one plant. Maybe each year, double what you plant soon, you will be eating all your own grown food?
aggg i never get this right... lol... always bugger it up with a couple of days of inattention lol
thanks for the reminders
Sarah
you'll get it exactly as right as needs be!
No worries. Its fun, right? Gardening is fun... that's all.
so true... but you know when you miss the early parts of staking them in they are MUCH harder to get back right... lol... best to do it right from the start.
happy gardening!
It's best from the start, too late and you risk damaging roots with late stakes
For sure. 100% need to get it right from start. lol... i get all excited about the new plants then forget the stakes.. lol... themn by the time i remember the plants are all spralling and as you say, i would damage the roots. One year ill get it right. lol
I wish I had a $$dollar$$ for every time I said, "One year, I'll get it right!"
Growing tomatoes requires a lot of care and dedication. Your plants look very healthy and of excellent quality.
getting there. LOTS of fruits on the vines... coming very soon
