How To Cook Cast Iron Pot Roast Over An Open Fire
AN AMAZING FirePit Pot Roast!
For me, there's nothing like a Pot Roast for comfort foods!
AND, who doesn't love cooking over an open fire, for a good, hearty meal? I combined the two recently, and used my firepit, and some of my home grown, fresh garden goodies to make a Cast Iron Pot Roast!

I grow my own onion, garlic, potato, carrot and celery. So, why not combine them, and make a fantastic fire pit cast iron pot roast?
First, I seasoned my new cast iron pot, with deep baked cooking oils. Then, it's a big roaring fire over natural hardwood coals, to get everything good and hot. Then, I seared the roast as hot as could be, then, moved coals around to get a nice, lower even temperature fire. After some baking in the pot, I added a big foil pocket of some seasoned veggies, and cooked them as well, on the coals.

cooking over an open is somewhat a traditional method here.. We do do it sometimes. 😀
Such a great way of cooking. Love it 😎
I bought a rocket stove and a dutch oven. The rocket stove allows me to cook with a minimum amount of wood, rocket stoves also produce less smoke.
Note, you can build a rocket stove with cinder blocks, tin cans or other cheap materials. There are numerous tutorials for building rocket stoves on Youtube. I bought my StoveTec stove when StoveTec first hit the market to support their cause.

.Cool to use the fire ring for cooking. I usually see them just used for a fire for ambiance or to take off the chill in the fall. Talk to me about separating the veggies from the roast. At least the potatoes and carrots will hold up cooked with the roast. We usually do them all together.
in the pot, I did onion, carrot, and celery, as well as a separate aluminum foil pocket of carrot, onion, celery, potato, garlic, etc.
the veggies in the pot were for flavor for the roast. but since i knew they wold be cooking for much longer, I wantwr some veggies that would be more crisp, less over cooked.
I remember my childhood when my grandmother always cooked outdoors because we used firewood to cook.
