Thoughts about the newest Humble Drop: July 2024.png

A Plague Tale: Requiem
Ghostrunner 2
Starship Troopers: Terran Command
Sticky Business
Zoeti
Figment 2: Creed Valley
Heretic's Fork
Hyperviolent

Woohooo, I'm getting through these Humble Bundle write ups finally! Now, I'm just a short month behind... so, I can just take a nap for a bit... the turtle will never catch me!

And this Humble Bundle drop from July was a pretty decent one as well! A few games that were on my wishlist, and a few that weren't but that were interesting enough to keep!

So, leading off the game bundle was the glorious looking Plague Tale: Requiem... a sequel to Innocence... I'm pretty keen to have this in my Steam library, and I've had it on my wishlist for ages. I just have to get around to playing the original one first! But definitely a keeper!

Ghostrunner 2 is another game that I've been eyeing off... a weird FPS slasher in a cyberpunk future setting... it looks pretty gory, and fast as well! I really want to like this, but I'm starting to get the feeling that I might be a bit too old and slow for these sorts of games. Oh well, it is in the bundle, and that makes it worth claiming... and if I'm old and slow, it won't matter as it didn't really cost that much to start with!

Starship Trooperes... he he, I loved this movie when I was at university, and I recently made my wife watch it when it was my turn to choose for movie night. It was as stupidly cheesy as I remembered, and my wife thought that it was okay... at least, that was what she said to my face. When I saw that there was a RTS game out... I had immediately wishlisted it, but it isn't really the sort of thing that I would say would be a must purchase for me. I can't imagine it being anything more than a bit of harmless puff of cheesy fun!

Sticky Business was a weird addition... run your own online sticker shop? The retro garish art style is definitely... interesting... and the concept is definitely novel. It wouldn't really be my thing, but it has some pretty glowing reviews from players... so, perhaps there is something in there that is worth checking out? That is what Humble Bundles are so good at... surfacing those weird indie gems! Will this be one of them?

Zoeti... rouge deck builder... we have seen quite a lot of those, but this one does have a cute anime sort of art style to it. I'm not really convinced that it really brings that much more to the table though... and I do have so many of these games in my game list, so I might just give this a miss.

Figment 2 is another interesting indie game that I wouldn't have noticed if it hadn't appeared on this bundle! It does seem quite hard to describe... a really weird and amazing art style... built as an action adventure game inside a human mind, a puzzler and a musical battler. All the weird and wonderful things that an indie developer can put into a game without the interference of marketing department and an executive overseer! I'm keeping this one!

Heretic's Fork... hehe.. another indie game, where you take up the position of being a manager in Hell... tower defence and deck building... it looks retro, but the idea sounds awesome! It is a Deck compatible, so I'm going to be playing this on the bus!

Hyperviolent is an old school looking shooter... and honestly, it looks really quite bad. Sure, this is what Quake and all of that looked like in the past... but that is best kept as fond memories and not as a style that needs to be emulated. I'm afraid that this is a hard pass for me.

The book Starship Troopers was much better than the movie. It's worth a read sometime!

The book is so good. It actually took me years to realize the excellent book I had loved was the inspiration behind that movie. (That said, the movie is pretty fun after you realize humanity are the bad guys).

My dad made me read it when I was a kid. I think it might have been a bit too advanced for me at the time especially with all of the philosophy bits in it, but I still remember it was a good read.

That's good parenting! I think I probably read it in my late teenage years - absolutely devoured it.

I haven't played the second one... but I do kind of feel that Helldivers is really the proper Starship Troopers game - it just does the whole vibe so well. I do love a good RTS though, I don't really feel like I've played a solid one since Dawn of War.

HellDivers 2 100% feels like a starship trooper movie game! The actor behind Rico Casper Van Dien even streamed himself playing the game!

I didn't look into the Helldivers games, I thought that they were multiplayer... maybe I should check them out.

You can totally play Helldivers games as a single player game. It's even preferable sometimes...

Oh, maybe I'll look into it on the next Steam sale!

I see a lot of good titles though I didn't have a chance to try most of them. After completing Innocence, I started playing A Plague Tale: Requiem/

Yes, it was still awesome! Even if the CGI is a bit dated!
