My late arrival to Holozing investors party - is it still worth it?

I’ve seen my friends posting about Holozing on hive as well as @acidyo on X, but trust me to get on that earning wagon fashionably late. Seeing the respected members of Hive community involved in this project was really what drove my attention and also made my decision of investment a no brainer.

While arriving late at the party might still be fashionable in some circles, where investment is considered, arriving late is not usually that great. Hence why the title asks if it’s still worth it, rather than claiming my huge success 😉

I’m not that great at always keeping my records accurately up to date, but that’s where blockchain is very helpful. Looking at my first claimed rewards, my first one was 21 days ago, on the 28th of November, which was about a week after I did my first delegation, so according to my screenshot I joined the Holozing party on 21st of November. Today is 19th, making it almost a round month since my investment started - great time to summarise!

Holizing - the newest web3 game on Hive

Holozing is the new game being developed on Hive. Blockchain games, @dcrops in particular are what brought me to Hive really. I tasted those for the first time in 2021, when I started playing Axie Infinity in a gaming guild. From that point I become very interested in p2e blockchain games. I love playing games. What’s not to love about earning while playing them?

That’s what I thought back then, but in truth there is a huge difference between playing games for fun and playing games to earn. The games I usually play are to relax after a challenging day/week at work. To be able earn while playing however, you really need to use your brain and look at various strategies to calculate what can bring you the best return on your investment.

While Holozing is still in its development stage and not available to play for some time, the game of earning has already started!

To start earning before you start playing you need to head over to holozing website, connect your hive wallet and voila, you’re IN!

No.1 - The easiest way to earn ZING - POSH holding.

A word of advice here… if, like me you tend to procrastine before doing anything, don’t make this mistake this time, if you have some POSH token in your wallet. In that case it’s really a no brainer, because you’ll be able to imediately claim your first ZING token rewards, which are then automatically staked and from there you’ll be earning through 2 out of 4 ways currently available.

Disclaimer - please DYOR before investing in anything! While this first option is a no brainer for me, there is always a risk involved in any investment you make. This article is just an illustration of my own thought processes while investing my own money and not a word of financial advice to you - my reader.

I had 0 POSH tokens in my wallet and I used it as an excuse not to jump on board early. I thought I’ll need to make some calculations and stretch my brain to start earning ZING, but please don’t take me as a good example. When I read @momogrow post about Holozing, which had all the necessary links included, I opened the website in my Keychain app on my mobile and was surprised just how easy it is to start earning.

At the time of draftting this, on the 6th of December the APR for simply holding POSH tokens in your wallet is still incredible at 133%. In fact it is so juicy that I went and purchased a few posh tokens to be able to maximise my ZING token earnings. Since my beginning on Hive, a year ago, POSH token has been one of those tokens that keeps its value rather well, so spending a few hive on POSH, especially at the price that recently dropped was a no brainer for me. In fact I’m slightly surprised that the price of POSH is dropping rather than rising, considering you can use it as one of the investment options in Holozing.

As you can see, 2 weeks later, when I’m actually publishing this post, the APR is still very inviting at 127%. There is however a cut-off time for claiming your Zing rewards for POSH holding, which hasn’t got a definite date, but is rather calculated from the price of ZING token. No 2 - Delegating HP to earn ZING

My first step however was delegating HP. The process of delegating was so easy using holozing website that I simply couldn’t resist.

‘Let’s delegate 500HP and see what happens’ I thought to myself and that’s exactly what I did.

In truth, I didn’t expect much and I didn’t check my rewards for the next few days. Next time I checked the website a week later, I was surprised to be able to claim my first 224 ZING tokens. Sure, it took a week to gather this amount, but there aren’t many options on hive that offer such a great APR on HP delegation at 53%. Without thinking much more about it, I run a quick calculation and decided to threw majority of my HP into @zingtoken delegation.

Is it risky? Of course it is! Just as every other investment we make. By delegating most of my HP my curation rewards will be much smaller as well as upvotes for those writers I curate.

Is it worth it? It depends. If all you’re after is big APR you’ll need to unstake your ZING token and sell it on a regular basis to secure the profit. What I’m after is accumulating as much Zing as possible to give myself a good head started in the game. My first plan was to undelegate the whole or a part of my HP when APR drops below 30%.

As I check the website today it is already slightly below that mark, but I decided to keep delegating for a little longer.

When I first checked the top holders rank of Zing, I was 409th holder with 710 ZING earned.

At the time of drafting this on the 6th of December, my rank holder was already 358 with 1.6k ZING earned. Today I’m 340th with almost 2k ZING earned.

While I’m not delusional to think I can catch up for the time lost on my procrastination, I want to do my best to accumulate as many Zing tokens as possible before the game is playable. I’m aiming for TOP200 holders before I decide to undelegate some or most of my HP delegation.

At the time of writing, my ZING stash is still increasing the most through my delegation, so in order to see the numbers grow fast, I will keep that amount delegated for the time being, while also increasing other ways of earning Zing token.

No 3 - staking Zing to earn more Zing

Once I had the first 2 ways of earning Zing sorted out and started claming my Zing reqards, these come in a form of stake. At first it is a no brainer to keep some or most of my earned zing staked. After all, there is additional APR added to my already earned APR, which makes for a nice compounding effect.

Of course that APR is dropping as more people stake their zing to receive the rewards, but so is my staked increasing, while I take advantage of high APRs on other ways of earning zing.

With my current stake at around 1.7k Zing, my rewards from staking vs delegation are now 3% vs 1.8% when I first started staking and delegating. This will increase naturally as my staked Zing increases.

I must add here that I don’t keep all of my ZING tokens staked. This is because I also want to take this opportunity of earning in all 4 ways possible, while they are all available. For this reason I unstake some Zing on more or less a weekly basis.

No 4 - Providing Liquidity in Diesel Pools to earn Zing

Which leads us to the last way of earning Zing - providing LP on Tribal Dex or Beeswap.

While all other ways of earning Zing token provide the rewards in staked form, the 4th way gives me liquid Zing which I like too, as unstaking my Zing token takes around 4 weeks.

What do I need the liquid Zing for? Well, for me personally I want to have some liquid Zing to be able to increase my LP and get more liquid Zing to do the same 😉 Alternatively I could also sell my liquid Zibg for hive to secure my profits or to have more hive to provide liquidity without reaching to my wallet.

At first I did a little experiment. I limited my investment to 20 Hive to see how it goes. I spent half of it to buy Zing tokens and at first I added 200 Zing and 5 Hive LP on Tribaldex. This gave me a tiny 0.01% of all ZING:SWAP.HIVE liquidity.

As you can see from the screenshot above, my LP position was somewhat different when I checked it a few days after adding my first 200 zing. This is a result of impermanent loss. I will write more about the results of my tiny investment later, but if you’re curious and want to learn more about this topic @libertycrypto27 wrote an amazing post about impermanent loss.

Once I had more liquid Hive I decided to add more LP in 200 Zing increments. This gives me a visual aid to seeing how my LP changes. Second time round 200 Zing was an equivalent to 3.5 Hive rather than 5 Hive I added per 200 Zing initially.

Today my LP changed even more and if I was to add 200 more zing today, it would cost me 2.65 Hive. This shows that the price changes of both token over time, but also my impermanent loss. To avoid more of it in the future I decided I will be selling a few Zing tokens for hive to limit my investment to 20 Hive and make my calculations easier in the future.

I will sure write more about LP and how my investment in Zing paid off with time, but now it’s time for some socialising while I’m on my holidays in Poland 😁

To quickly answer my question from the title - is it still worth it? It very much depends. The APR's in all 4 ways of earning Zing token have dropped a lot since the beginning of this project and so did the price of Zing token. For those making smart and timely steps even the lower APRs are still attractive enough to make a profit. For me personally it's the accumulation of Zing that matters the most, so I can be prepared for when the game starts. So yeah, definitely worth it :)
