MWM|| Basic Black Top 8/10
Blessed Needle Monday dear dear NeedleWorkMonday friends. I hope your weekend was one of rest and relaxation. On my part I can tell you that I have been very active with sewing. I have been practicing a lot and I am more and more excited to continue learning and improving my technique.
Today I am very excited to share with you the process of this project that I made with love for my daughter. It is a basic top in black.
A few days ago I went to the fabric store and took the opportunity to buy several pieces of fabric that were half price. Among these fabrics was a piece of black elasticized fabric, which seemed ideal to make a top for my daughter. As I bought the fabric very cheaply I was not afraid of damaging it, the important thing in this adventure is to practice and learn. The first thing I did was to make a pattern with my daughter's top and then place it on the fabric to cut the pieces.
Since the black fabric was a bit transparent, I decided to make the top lined, so I had to cut 2 equal pieces for the front and two equal pieces for the back. Sewing a lined garment seemed ideal for beginners like me, since all the seams are on the inside and imperfections are not very noticeable. On the other hand, I also find it a bit more complicated to place the armhole and neck bias binding.
To assemble the top, the first thing I did was to sew the collar and the armhole of both parts: the main fabric with the lining. In the next step I sewed the shoulders together, guided by a tutorial that explained very well the procedure to follow so that the shoulder seam would be perfect. Finally, I sewed the sides, leaving a small opening to allow me to turn the garment over and sew the edge. The bottom part of the top was the most complex of all, however, I had a lot of patience to baste everything before putting the seam through the machine and it turned out quite well.
Saludos y bendiciones.
I really liked the end result, actually. I must say that it felt great to see that I was able to sew a garment for my daughter. Best of all, she loved the top and asked me to make another one in a different color. I give this sewing project an 8 out of 10 because I really liked the result, but I am very aware that I need to polish and improve my technique. Let me know what you thought of this project and what suggestions you have for this sewing novice.
Greetings and blessings.

Saludos!
