How I made a crochet pocket bag.
Hello needleworkers fancy being here after all the hassles and battle with electricity, I finally made it this week. This is a two pocket bag I made for a client and I really had fun playing with this because it's my first attempt and I am really proud of me how it turned out.
The crochet part was easy, almost like a walk in the park even though it took me a week to finish up all the parts.
At a point I was crying lol, my spine hurt and my thumb plus index finger was out of shape and aches real bad. Trust me to run to @abenad... I was like is this how crocheting is for you? And she said no, that she cannot relate and went further to laugh at me lol.
One thing I love about my crochet session with Abenad is how she knows the right word and reactions to motivate me. Like she knows me so well because if she hadn't laughed at me so hard, I would have abandoned this project and probably do a refund. But then I didn't and here we are with a finished product and currently on another bag for a client 😌.
So let's get right on the procedure on how I made this pocket bag.
ITEMS USED
12 yarn (I got 16 yarn for this project but used 12)
Crochet hook
One long and short zipper.
Big needle
STEP ONE
For the first step, I made fifty two chains, after which I started with single crochet on each chain. When I got to the end, I simply turned the fabric around and continued? with the single crochet till I got my desired width.
STEP TWO
THE FRONT
After crocheting the body of the bag, the bag cover, the handle and pockets, I got on the needlework part which was what I used in assembling and joining the bag. For easy sewing, I secured the side of the pocket that I haven't sewn on with needles.
THE BACK
OVERVIEW OF BOTH THE FRONT AND BACK WITH BITS
I first assembled the back of the bag, before going further with the pockets in the front. After which I joined the pocket at the back of the bag.
FOR THE ZIPPER
I did a double crochet round the zippers, after which, I used a big needle and yarn to attach to the edges of the bag and front pocket
THE HANDLE
The handle was the last thing that I sewed in. For the handle, I crochet horizontally. First I chained 8, then went in with single crochet on each chain, back and forth till I got my desired length.
THE COVER
For the cover or flap, I did 40 chains since I was using the bag stitches vertically. I used double crochet for this as I was already exhausted from all those single crochet.
THE FRONT AND BACK POCKET
If you noticed, the front pocket is bigger than the bag in terms of width. So I made 30 and 25 chains respectively of which I went on with single crochet.
