Making a Black Dress for my Friend

Today, i will be sharing how i made a dress for my friend who resides in Ilorin, Nigeria.

My friend reached out to me two days ago that she needed a black dress for a photoshoot in her place of work. Every one of them in her office is expected to wear any black corporate outift. Although the notice was short, i just had to get it done for her because she is an amazing customer and a good friend.
I headed to the market to get the material. I made the dress in less than 24 hours. I went to the motor park afterwards to send the dress to her.

I would like to take you through the process of how i made the dress. I decided to make a gathered straight gown for her.

First, i got all the materials/ tools needed ready

●Black crepe fabric
●Thread
●Office pin
●Tape rule
● Ruler
●Chalk
●Masking tape
●Scissors
●Pencil
● Eraser
●zipper

I began first by using my masking tape to join my plain white papers, which i will be using for the pattern. I used her measurement to draft out the pattern.
This is a basic bodice pattern for a gown. I went further to cut the shape of the down part of the dress where the gathers will be attached.

I splitted the pattern into two in order to have the upper bodies and the lower bodies.

The next step was to place the pattern on the fabric. I used the pattern to cut out my front and back bodies for both the upper part and the lowet part. I added all my allowances when cutting on the fabric.
I also drafted the sleeve pattern and cut it on the fabric.

I went ahead to sew the dart of the front bodies and back bodies and joined it to the down bodies.

I joined it at the shoulder and hem the neck part with a bais. I then went further to attach the zipper and the sleeve.

I measured round the downpart where my gathers will be attached. I got 88 inches. I multiplied it by 5 and got 440 inches. I measured 440 inches on a long piece and ran a loose stitch in order to gather it to fit the measurement. Afterwards i hemmed the downpart, and i was done with the dress. I love the outcome so much and couldnt wait for my friend to rock it.
