Healthy habits for a busy ME. LOH #213

The greatest wealth is health by VIRGIL

Staying healthy in a teaching profession can be very challenging and demanding in terms of keeping fit and healthy. However, it is very good to understand one's body whenever your body calls for it. Today, I will be sharing the few things I engage in to stay healthy and fit as a teacher.

I have to stay healthy despite my busy schedule as a teacher and what I am confidently sure of is H2o called water. Life as a teacher can be both tedious and strenuous, which makes staying hydrated essential. There was a time I fell sick and went to see a doctor. The first question he asked was, "Are you a teacher?" When I responded affirmatively, he quickly remarked that teachers often neglect their own well-being, forgetting that health is wealth.

His advice resonated deeply with me: a teacher managing eight periods should prioritize their health by drinking water regularly. I realized the importance of hydrating, and from that day forward, I committed to drinking plenty of water even during my teaching hours. My waking up is to drink one glass full of water to kick start the day.

Additionally, regular exercise is essential for maintaining good health. The doctor pointed out that many teachers mistakenly believe that the physical demands of teaching equate to exercise, when in fact these two are quite different. I now make it a point to engage in regular physical activities, particularly on weekends, and I can confidently say that the results have been visible, and am not ready to stop any moment from now.

Eating fruits has also become a key part of my health routine. Due to the rising costs of food, I’ve noticed that many meals we consume aren't properly balanced. To counter this, I've made it a habit to include at least one fruit in my daily diet. The mallam at my junction is fully aware that I'm branching anytime am coming back from work. It must be balanced!

Lastly, rest is something I prioritize above all. Rest is crucial for every human being. Reflecting on the biblical creation story, where God created the heavens and the earth in six days and rested on the seventh, I often ask myself, "What's stopping me from resting?" I take every opportunity to rest when I'm not engaged in any other activities. Life can be beautiful if we go easy on ourselves, and prioritizing our health should always be our foremost concern.

The image is myself.

It’s a good thing you have come to understand all of these things. When it comes to teaching, it takes so much from the individual and that is one major reason why you have to prioritize your health above a lot of things because if you fall sick, the school will have to still go on.

Please take care of your health and apply for breaks when you know you need it. You don’t have to wait for you to fall sick first.
