Noodle and rice!

I guess you already know we Thai people love rice and noodle dishes so most of the time, those are the base of our meals. From South to north from east to west. This time we stopped by at one of the provinces up north called Phrae. My mom's hometown so I somehow feel related to the province without having lived there.

First thing I do when I get to any province I visit, I look up or ask around for some good food! This place came up as one of the first results both on Google maps, search engine as well as the local receptionist at the hotel we're staying at so, we gotta come check it out!

Kanom Chin Pa Da (ขนมจีนป้าดา)

Kanom Chin (I recommend you pronounce 'Ka-nom-jeen') is a type of fresh noodle made with rice. Normally eaten with curry, soup or papaya salad.
Pa Da, the auntie named 'Da' who's happen to be this shop owner :)

Kanom Chin Nam Yoi (ขนมจีนน้ำย้อย)

Phrae has this special way of eating Kanom Chin. I have never really seen it elsewhere in Central Thailand where I'm from so this was indeed an interesting meal! This dish called 'Kanom Chin Nam Yoi', where they have the rice noodles topped with some fried garlic, then on the side there's a small bowl of smoked chili sauce, and a bowl of pork soup containing some bones, meat and blood cake!

You then add in the chili sauce onto the noodles bit by bit according to your liking, then a little fish sauce to pull out that umami taste (yes! you gotta! It's Thailand yoo). A few spoons of noodles then a spoon of soup. I found it interesting.. It's not as tasteful as what I'm used to but I kept eating. It's not much of flavors but it's actually delicious. I can see this become my favorite dish if I live there long enough.

Khao Gun Jin (ข้าวกั๊นจิ๊น)

This one a lot of you might say 'meh' but hey, this one is sure an exotic one. It's a dish from the whole northern Thai area, from Chian Rai (the northest) down to Phrae, the province we're currently at.

It's steam rice that they stir around with fresh blood and steam one more time, that's why you see the brown-ish red-ish color on the rice. Spice it up with some garlic and other spices, and topped with load tons of fresh bean sprouts, and cilantros. Quite good and pretty sure it's healthy somewhat!

The place it self, Kanom Chin Pa Da (ขนมจีนป้าดา), quite colorful and funny in a way. You can see the owner got some good humor from one of the signs, saying, this dish used to be 300,000 THB but now only 35 THB. What a discount! The owner is also quite friendly and talking none stop the whole meal we're there lol - She speak pretty good English too so should be easy to communicate!

Sure visit if you ever stop by the province and don't forget to try the dishes mentioned! There're also other dishes like papaya salad which we sure ordered as it's one of my favorite dishes here in Thailand but I didn't find anything special about it.

Do you think some of this is like the food I ate in Vietnam? Are Thai dishes spicy?
