Egyptian Martbak For the Midnight Snack

It’s been a month since my sleep schedule became messy. It is hard for me to sleep at the midnight, it needs at least 4 AM for me to be able to sleep.

This messy sleep schedule impacting my meal schedule, my breakfast became lunch, my lunch became dinner and my dinner is maybe gone.

But a few days ago, I feel like eating something at the midnight but for some reason, there’s nothing to eat at home, so I have only three choices, the first is to cook it, the second is to order the food Online App, and the last choice is to go outside and buy the food.

Looking at the first choice, it is not possible because there are no food ingredients left. And for the second choice, it’s still no because the delivery fee is often more expensive than the food price itself.

It left me with the final choice, went outside and look for potential food to eat. I take my bike keys, wear a helmet, and of course my jacket, I went outside. Luckily there are still some people crossing the street.

It goes for 15 minutes and still got nothing that interests me. And finally, I call my sister and ask for suggestions and they said they want to eat “Martabak Mesir” or “Martabak Kubang”.

I remember that I know a place that sells that food because I used to be regular there since 2016. So I went to that place and luckily that place was is not closed yet.

This place’s name is “Martabak Mesir Putra Lintau” or in English “Lintau’s Son Egyptian martabak” and located at Suka Karya Street near Sunday Morning Traditional Market at Tarai Bangun Village.

After arriving at this place, I talk a bit with the owner just to catching up, been a few months since the last time I went here. I order 2 portions of the Martabak, one for me and one for my sisters.

Egyptian martabak cooked by frying in a plate frying pan, and the main ingredients are flour dough containing:

  • Spiced meat, mostly sliced cow meal’s Rendang
  • Some scallions

After the flour dough is molded with the other main ingredients, then the Egyptian Martabak is ready to be cooked.

After ten minutes, the food is ready and I went home to enjoy this food.

As you can see, the food comes with some vinegar with sliced onion and Cayenne pepper.

There are two types of Egyptian Martabak that you can order at this place, the first is regular one cost about IDR 15000, and the special one cost IDR 20000. The price increases twofold since 2016, but it is okay, they’re good at maintaining the food taste, so it will not disappoint you.

The martabak is wrapped with an oil paper wrapper, the regular wrapper in Indonesia to wrap the rice or food.

You can put the martabak on a bowl or a plate, and you can separate the sauce in another bowl or just let it mix in the same place as I did.

It’s been almost 5 years since my first time eats this Martabak, but the taste is never disappointing me, it still tastes so good.

The sliced martabak is best eaten with vinegar sauce, or you can use another sauce if you want.
