Remembering What Matters

Time passes by so easily that we sometimes don't notice how far time has gone due to the many activities we indulge in on a daily basis, and when such happens, when we reflect on how our day or month went by, it's then that we'll realize something we've missed and would wish we had remembered and done them. I myself have usually found myself in this situation, and even though I'm sometimes not pleased with myself, in the end I ended up accepting it as part of my life experience and an opportunity to be more observant and do better subsequently.

Looking through the past month, I for one can say it's been a tiring me for me, and that's due to the loads of things I've got on my plate to do and achieve within the short period I've got on a daily basis. I literally can't complain but to be grateful for life, because some had plans for today but unfortunately couldn't live to witness today, while others have become bedridden due to illness or accident that hinders them from doing things the way they like.

However, focusing on the focal point of this write-up, as I've said, there are several things I've missed this past month that I'm not pleased with, and most of them are related to my health and wellbeing. Looking back and realizing I didn't do most of these things just made me want to chastise myself, because if I'm not careful, they could have not too palatable repercussions on my health.

First of all, since my last two visits to the hospital, I was given some instructions by the doctors, and unfortunately I've deviated from some of them, and already I'm seeing the repercussions of those actions, first of which the need to visit the doctor two months after my laat routine medical checkup. I guess due to the nature of things at the school presently and the ongoing interhouse sports competition, the appointment that ought to have happened two weeks ago totally skipped my mind, and I only remember when I was thinking about what to write on this topic.

Second on the list is still in a way related to my health, as I've been told to avoid too much intake of salt and seasoning, but I happen to have a visit from my junior brother since about a month now. Since he came around, he has been helping with the cooking, for which I'm grateful, but I notice the taste of the food is different, like it has too much seasoning. Rather than complain, I chose to ignore it since most times I just get home tired from work, and I'm grateful to have something to eat without having to go through the stress myself.

But looking at how my body system has been in the past week, I knew something was wrong and luckily deciphered it could be from the food taste I've been ignoring and had to tell him strictly about my health and the need to reduce all those sustains, and if he can't, I'd rather have him not cook for me than to do so in the name of helping me, but in truth, it's only causing more harm. Even though it took 2 weeks before I could remember to speak up, I'm pleased I've done that, and things are now almost back to normal.

There are several other things I did ignore or couldn't do in the last month, but I guess I'll be bringing this write-up to a close here and just learning from each of those experiences to shape my future decision and lifestyle, setting alarms to remind me of my schedule, and also not ignoring things that might jeopardize my wellbeing.

I was reading you and I saw reflected in a mirror, I have neglected not only in October, but throughout the year my health. This year I was supposed to go again for my checkup with the cardiologist and I didn't go. I went to the gynecologist half-heartedly and I have not bothered to improve my diet and I am hypertensive, so I understand you perfectly.

Oh that's serious, it's good to see someone else who understands me and have almost similar illness, I guess we need to take our wellbeing more seriously.

The beautiful thing is that you have managed to recognize this and you're working towards doing better for your health. That too-much seasoning with your brother's cooking may be the regular quantity of seasoning, but I understand that this could be bad for you. Hope you get better, @vickoly. All the best!
