A Surprise That Stole His Heart

Gifts most times are usually represented as a gesture of one's kindness, love, appreciation, or celebration. A thoughtful gesture can most likely mean the world to some people.

Sometime last year, my husband and I were going through my WhatsApp status together. When he suddenly asked me to go back to the previous picture, I did.

It was a picture of a shoe he wanted to take a closer look at.

He complimented the texture and color of the shoe; he said he liked the shoe and would love to have something like that, in particular since he didn't have any shoes in that color.

The vendor happens to be my cousin's wife, so I asked her for the cost of the shoe, and she told me the amount.

I shared the price with him, of which he agreed that the price was fair, but unfortunately it was not within his budget at that time.

I contacted my cousin's wife the following day to place the order, and she told me that particular ones had been sold out but shared other shoe designs with me that were close to that one.

I picked two different shoes and transferred her money to her. The shoes were delivered within four days.

If I remember vividly, that should be on the sixteenth of December; I had to hide those shoes amidst my clothes inside my wardrobe for him not to see them. Eagerly waiting for the perfect moment to reveal my gifts to him.

I presented them to him on the 26th of December, being Boxing Day, and the shock on his face was priceless. He was perplexed. He was emotional. The bewildered look on his face was astonishing, which also left him in awe.

What even made this gift more special was the previous week was our wedding anniversary, and I had presented him with gifts, so I am very certain he was not expecting anything from me, which explains the surprise on his face. The complete surprise on his face is one of the things that made that day's experience unforgettable.

I must admit, I also felt this overwhelming joy and happiness within me; seeing how happy and emotional my husband felt that day made me feel like Santa Claus, who had granted the heartfelt wishes of a sweet, innocent child.

It was truly a beautiful moment and magical moments, and I was grateful that I was able to get him those shoes.

Even though it was an unplanned budget, which, to an extent, disrupted some of the plans I had for my money that period, it was still worth it.

I have come to realize that the value of sincere and true gifts mostly lies in the love, thought, and effort that were put behind them; most often than not, it is not really about the monetary value.

This is my entry into this week's prompt.
