One Night Of Motivation
At this point I wonder how I came last during my nursery school days when I was just a little girl, Maybe I deserved it because I was always playing but it doesn’t matter, I thought everyone in nursery school usually took first position.
When my sister comes home with her grade card, I feel so envious of her but I couldn’t bring myself to give mine to my dad cause I always did poorly then. It was frustrating as most times my dad would discipline me for me to sit up but the reverse was always the case. The only chance I got to play freely was at school so I utilized the opportunity.
Every term became worse up till the point my dad was fed up and thought it was the school and had to change me to another school. There wasn’t any difference, so he made sure I repeated class so that I would just have no choice but to sit up. My siblings were doing well and at some point, I wondered if there was something wrong with me academically.
I can never say Motivations are overrated maybe some motivations are. We hear motivations like “I started from just tears and now I own this multimillion water company” You keep wondering if you have no tears in your eyes to start yours, maybe not enough tears.
Just one night of motivation turned my life around. During the phase of my academic disaster. My dad tried several means, he disciplined me, he got me my favorite snacks, he tried teaching me with love but I just wasn’t getting it in.
That night my favorite uncle visited us and I was so excited, he relocated to another country but came back to see his family, so he decided to stop by our house. I think my dad told him about my issue, of how I did so poorly in my academics and I couldn’t read even as I was already approaching Age 9, meanwhile, my younger brother was reading fluently and was able to spell.
He sat us down and told us his story. He said he wasn’t academically sound when he started school, but he never felt relaxed about it. He tried to study more. He tried different study habits and he even listened more in class. I had no idea my uncle had the same issue cause he was so brilliant, he is a Doctor at the moment. I felt motivated and said to myself if he can do it then I can.
Also, I felt motivated because he said whenever we make a better result we would earn ourselves a gift.
It was difficult but since I had someone I wanted to be like, I tried my best. Slowly I moved from taking the last position in class to taking the first position.
My dad was so shocked and asked my class teacher to keep an eye on me if I was involved in malpractice because there was a promised gift, to his uttermost surprise my class teacher said I had improved drastically.
Most nights when everyone had gone to bed, I tried to stay awake to study just to make sure I did well in my academics.
I must say if my uncle had not motivated me that night, I wouldn’t be where I am today. It is shocking how a girl who did so poorly in her Nursery/elementary school came out with first-class honors in College.
Motivation has a great impact on my life and I must say I am grateful for that “Night of Motivation”
Cheers 🥂

What can I say, this is a real grass to grace story. Maybe you didn't make a multimillion dollar company with your tears but this is so commendable that your Uncle's words of motivation were able to spur you up into becoming the amazing academic woman you are now. Beautiful!🌺

I am glad to know that you hold on to your uncle's motivation, worked hard and achieved the great result. Not everyone implement words , many do not take action even after being motivated, however, not all motivation works as expected but I am happy you have your success through that night's motivation from your uncle .
Thanks for participating.
Wow, what motivation can do. Pushing you from doing what you felt you couldn't to being the best at it. It's good to have one or two things that can motivates us in life, to keep us going.

I'm trying to think as far back as nursary school, I'm not really sure if I was good in my academics or bad, those memories are gradually fading but one thing I can remember is I hated my class teacher because she was fond of beating children on their head and I was good in math.
But I never imagined a child in nursery school was capable of taking the last position, it is kind of funny😅.
The gift your uncle promised you might have motivated you but there is something else, when it comes to children from my experience, they love to know that they are not the only one experiencing what they are going through and the moment they see someone who has experienced the same situation as them and can relate with their present circumstances a bond is formed, they become intrigued by that person, making such person their role model. Never judge a child, instead share the burden of their pain with them. I guess that us what your uncle did.
But your dad is funny, he must have been shocked by your drastic progress to think you are capable of malpractice, what kind of malpractice could a child possibly engage in😅😂
It is good you got better in your academics, which means you are also in the position your uncle was, someday when you meet another child with the same issue as yours, you would know what to say, that is the kind of seed your uncle has planted in you.

This is a practical example of how someone can motivate another to achieve his or her goals. Kudos to you for your achievements dear.
Thank you so much, I appreciate
I find your post very interesting. This is the kind of motivation one of my daughter's need in Mathematics. She is not good in Mathematics and hates trying. I read it back then in School just to pass and as such, I don't know anything extra about it to teach her but my girl is just too uninterested in Mathematics.
Your uncle did well motivating you and from experience as a teacher, I have always known that no subject can be difficult. If you persist in knowing more about it daily, you will begin to improve. Congrats you are better now than before. Kudos

Thank you so much, she just needs extra love and attention with time I am sure she will get through it.
But there is always one subject every student hate though.
I also teach but in a higher institution though.
Thank you so much for dropping a great comment.
I appreciate you. She will be fine if she puts more effort. Thanks
Definitely she will be. You’re welcome
