Looking Back: Reflections

Life has a way of messing with you and then giving you the finger. Things happen that you never planned for and you just cope with them and try to make the best out of them. Well, when I saw the prompt, my mind immediately went back to all I have experienced to get to where I am today. Mostly, all that I have had to go through were self-inflicted. Sure, some people dealt me a hand or two, but in the end, I made the decisions.

The Past and Decisions

I like to think that the past is called the past because it is the past. Simple. However, some things from the past never seem to leave us. It varies from person to person; in this case, I am referring to lessons. As we grow, we will fall and have to pick ourselves up. I remember making a post related to this.

The past will always be a part of us, in my opinion, but it is not who we are. While we are prone to mistakes, we are also privileged to learn from them. Honestly, I believe that you cannot become a better person without making some mistakes. We learn from the failures. The beauty of the process is looking back and learning, seeing what we missed and practicing new things. We do not have to get it all at once; most times, we have to miss it to find it.

One thing that helped me grow as a person was re-evaluating my actions. When I seem to be struggling with something (mostly financially), I take a step back and look at what my actions were that led to that point. I do this often too. Even now. I am a curious person by nature and I am always trying to explore new things, themes and ventures. So, I am always playing around with one thing or the other, stimulating my brain. In all this, I am always discovering something new either about myself or things around me – it is always a revelation. This is how I look back at something I did in the past and laugh as well, because that person in the past does not hold a candle to who I am now. It took making the decision to change and become a better person for me to be here in this moment.

Well, there is a saying that goes you do not really know how it feels unless you are in that person’s shoes. Now, I see it also as you do not really know what you are doing until you see from a different view. You know the way we act a certain way and someone draws a conclusion (which could be accurate or just a flop), that is the way we look back and we see with new vision.

I believe that our experiences – as they enhance and grow – play a part in this. Where things that seemed so important no longer hold priorities. In that moment, we do not see what it is we are missing, but maybe an experience – could be from watching someone else – teaches us otherwise.

The first step to growth is reflection. Reflecting on our actions and our responses to the stimuli around us. Be it negative or positive, how did we react to them? This step can open doors we never knew existed – doors to our souls. We learn, we practise and we grow.

In conclusion, take time to revisit your actions every once a while, especially if it is something you cannot throw in the background. Look with a different eye each time. It might just help more than you know. You are not always perfect you know, and trust me when I say that just revisiting a situation can hold shocking truths.

Hi, @brosonleo
We are delighted to have you in this socialization and grateful that you have joined the reflections of #thoughtfulthursday, especially this week with a phrase of considerable significance Hindsight is 20/20, representative of what it is to look back at what you have lived, bringing with it your experiences and experiences in your journey. To be wrong expressed in its different representations is distinctive of our human nature, on the contrary, perfection is a chimerical illusion. To turn to the past and judge is sometimes complex when everything has already happened, we are not responsible for all the events that have happened, although sometimes we consider it so. We must be generous with ourselves and value what at some point we faced wrongly or not, we did it and if it was not the best, value and redirect or rectify. In our journey everything adds up, everything contributes, nothing subtracts in our learning to evolve in our experiential transformation. We carry intrinsic imprints of our past, because we come from it and thanks to it we are experience that changes day by day in our existence.
We thank you for this range of valuable reflections, which gives value to share. Health and well being for you and yours !LUV

Hola, @brosonleo
