The Roof top party was spoiled

Not everything works as planned.

Whenever I am at my native for a long period, a party with friends is a must. It helps us a lot to de-congest ourselves from all the stress by sitting for some time and discussing with close friends, sometimes, even matters that cannot be discussed anywhere else. Unfortunately our busy scattered life does not allow to meet always, but whenever I am there, we try to meet often. And a party is an additional bonanza, it makes us stress free for almost 2-3 weeks at the minimum. At least for boys, I am sure, meeting friends and chitchatting is the most stress free means, that they would enjoy everyday. That is the reasons people in village are happier than us, because they do meet everyday, and come home stress free ( Daily Khati) unlike our digital socialization, where we see the status of the person living next door, but don't talk. I feel, physical socialization is the best means to be happy, do you ? When I see people practicing Yoga, and laughing artificially, it makes me wonder, the natural laughing that was in life few decades back are slowly becoming past time memories.

Now coming to our plan, this time, we wanted to try something different, cook the mutton ourselves. Every time, we get the food prepared by our wives, everyone would get different items like boiled vegetables, chicken, fish, mutton etc. This time, we got the fish and chicken prepared at home, but the mutton was bought in the morning and kept (after being marinated) to be cooked in the evening. And to get the best quality mutton, both my friends, waked up at 5.30 in the morning, and went to a far place which is reputed for its quality. Then we got busy with our work in the day and met back at 8 p.m. This BPL Chullah ( freely given by govt to people Below Poverty Line (BPL)) was borrowed from one of our friend to do the traditional cooking with wood. And after we got everything ready on the roof, the biggest question surfaced : who will cook !!!🙃

20240517_204142.jpg

Nobody brought this earlier, and everyone was thinking, someone will cook. So finally, it was decided to be a collaborative effort. Our friend above volunteered to own the entire effort, but then others were in disagreement, saying we all will cook. Cooking the spices till its ready is important for mutton, but then someone said, don't worry, you can mix them all, and put it , they will still be tasting great.

20240517_205406.jpg

So before the spices were fully ready, the mutton was added, and cooked together.

20240517_224416.jpg

Unfortunately, they also did not have much experience with traditional cooking and the heat produced from the wood did not meet their expectation 🤓 They tried burning newspapers, but that seemed to not help as well.

20240517_205416.jpg

So it took a lot longer than expected, but then Major was not willing to wait farther.

20240517_213110.jpg

We call him Major in fun, because he served in a Army school for few years in Nagaland, and became very fair. So they started the party, with fish and chicken, and we could not resist knowing that, it would finish soon. The mutton was left with slow fire, and after half an hour, it was decided to not spend more time and open it. May be summer was also to be blamed partially, had it been Winter, they could have waited a lot longer. And unfortunately, the mutton did not taste as expected, and we managed to eat only half of it barely.

So we are not cooking mutton any more.....a solid waste of time, money and effort. Getting it cooked by our wives, is a much better option. 😀

It's not a waste of time because you enjoy cooking though the expected outcome wasn't met. Practice makes perfect. 😊

This reminds me of the saying "Too many cooks spoil the broth". I too don't have any idea how to cook mutton, so I'll leave it to those who know. It is sad that it didn't turn out well, but at least you still had food to eat, and good company. I do agree that bringing home cooked meals next time might be better haha.

Hi dear sir🥰 Sounds like you had a fun get-together with your friends despite the unfortunate mutton mishap. I totally agree that spending time with close friends is a great stress reliever. Sir maybe next time you can stick to the tried-and-true method of having your wives cook the mutton😂🥰🥰🥰

That's too bad that it didn't work out for you. At least you know now how to better prepare for next time. It looks like you still had a good time!

It's good that you can enjoy the company of your friends when you are in your country.
Although the lamb did not turn out as expected, who can take away the fun they had while trying to prepare it. Wise choice let the wives cook the next lamb
Thank you very much dear friend @sanjeevm for sharing this fun experience

I am also thinking of getting to meet with my friends and have a party. It usually helps us to have a tighter bond and makes us happy just like those who are in the village
I’m glad that you even tried to prepare the mutton even though it didng go as planned
Kudos to you!

OH NO not the mutton! Ah well sounds like the rest of the party feast was excellent enough.

It is the company, break with the norm and trip down memory lane with old friends that is the real blessing.

Thanks for taking us along to the party my friend.

Really sad for all that happened to your party. You said it correct that sometimes not everything works according to the plan but i agree of enjoying the party in another way. There are a lot of ways by which you can cheer all together so it is better to find out some other way to enjoy the party and cheer up with your friends and family.
