Spending power cut time at the beach.

Yes, we struggle with power cuts here, but we use the times to go out.

A bumper post here of some sights on our beach so come and enjoy the views.

Our next power cut is scheduled for 4pm today and I think that you can know what a problem these power cuts present to our country and it's people. Small businesses are struggling due to a lack of trade and so many are shutting down. We already have record unemployment figures in the country and the power cuts are very bad news. In the meantime we have to struggle to get our daily tasks done.

Crime is also a very serious problem here, and when the power is out then crime flourishes. So many other bad incidents and occurrences here that one can only flee to the ocean or to the mountains for sanity.
But I will stop moaning and show you some beautiful pictures here today.

We are becoming very proficient at getting all of the important tasks done in between the power cuts. But we can do so much more, and yes it is a struggle. But then again, not only for us as I think here about the poor that live in the shanty towns with the power cuts. It is winter. It is cold. Little children go to bed hungry, and everything is in an upheaval. So we are basically sitting on top of a time bomb, as sooner or later the patience of the people will run out.
Such is life here.

What a truly beautiful coastline you have, though!!

Well done you for incredible optimism to use your regular power outages for exercise and collecting material for a Hive post. I have friends in SA also struggling with often more than one outage per day. And yes, one wonders how long before the frustration boils over.

Do you have access to solar panels etc in SA? Our Thai villages in the mountains here are often without regular electricity and its really common to see them now setting up basic solar, for basics like phone batteries and internet.

Thank you kindly and yes, at times we have four power cuts per day. Today only three and it is certainly debilitating. A power keg indeed.

Yes, we have access to solar panels, but we cannot afford even the basic systems as they are very expensive. We are charity workers and we don't draw big salaries, as the income is meant for the poor that we help.

It's a tough argument - without the infrastructure yourself you also CAN"T help the poor as effectively. I run a social enterprise business myself and worked as an NGO funding consultant for many years, and I know first hand how not resourcing yourself well enough can cripple you. Such a delicate balance. My new off-grid production facility along the Thai Burmese border will specifically have extra solar capacity built in so that surrounding village people can charge batteries and phones for free.

3 power cuts a day IS a powder keg - without doubt!

Totally agreed with you and we have grown used to operating on a knife's edge with a delicate balance for survival, as we are now 20 years in the charity field. Hundreds of NGOs and NPOs have closed down over the years in the country, but by grace we have simply continued. Not that we have escaped scot free as we have had also two burn-outs over the years and the last one ended with me having a light stroke.
But we just continue the battle.

Production facility? Fine natural herbal products?
Great that you think and care for the surrounding village people as the bonus is that it develops into trust that will bode well for production facility.
Marian, my wife are also into herbal things and she did a course in herbs and herbal remedies. But she works with me at the charity and does not make or sell anything.

We endure my friend and yes, our days are filled with our never ending hope.
My pleasure is always to share the things that I love and I like your sharp eye in spotting the beetle. We have many of them on the roads here and most of them are in perfect original condition.

Oh yes, without hope we would be totally lost.
Most of the beetles have their original owners and they have never parted with them. Instead they lovingly caressed them over the years and use them every day.

thankfully the day is over and life goes on. Unfortunately we cannot go to the funeral as the flights are ill timed and too expensive. The prices have doubled since our last flight 4 years ago.
She will be buried on Wednesday at 12 noon and my father in law will represent us at the funeral. He will also read a letter from me in the church.

Your workload seems to constantly be increasing over time and it has to be a worry for you.
No wonder it is also in your dreams and I suppose there is nothing that you can do to lessen the load?

I didn't feel well yesterday, so I reply now.

I hate funerals, but the older I get the more I have to visit. Last year we had to say goodbye to my elder sister who has been ill for years and I do hope that the next funeral of a close relative is far, far away in time.

I do have a co-worker who will be able to do my work when I am not there, but I haven't found the time yet to teach him. In the beginning of August I might have the time when he returns from his holidays and then my life might get easier from September on ... we'll see.

Hi Hannes, like I said before it's no problem as I know your situation.

The bad thing is that we cannot go to the funeral. I think that you know that I used to do funerals during my 17 years of preaching duties, so that part doesn't bother me, but it's the though of my last beloved sister passing away that bothers me tremendously. I just have the feeling that as I am the last of the family that I don't have much time left on this planet.
Don't get me wrong, as I am not scared of death, but there is still so much that I want to do.

So then maybe it will happen in September, unless you co-worker resigns before then 🤣 !LOLZ

I have sold my bike on Friday and now I'm over half way to my van 😃

I didn't want him but my bosses did. He will certainly be able to do the job, but not the way I do it. I will give him a chance though, because I don't have another choice anyway 🤣 !LOLZ but if he messes up he'll be in big trouble 😎

Yay, one less worry and halfway there so you plan seems to be working well at this stage to get the van.
Now we just have to take care that your daughter doesn't fall pregnant before you retire with the van, else you will not get the van and you will have to go and work as a waiter, or a shop assistant after your retirement 🤣🤣🤣 !LOLZ

Shame yes, you have to work with what you get, but I am sure that you will even be able to teach the devil if he has to work with you 😉

Yes, a last goodbye is needed, but when I think back to the funeral of my sister, it's also very, very sad.

I think I'll have to talk to my daughter and you have made at least my next night sleepless because I'll think what I could do if the worst case happens 😉

I also spoke to her in the week, but she sounded drowsy as they gave her pills to drink. That was the last and now she is in heaven. So you understand as it was the same thing with your sister. Always the sadness.

Thank you and they reckon that the power cuts will still continue for another few years.
It was caused by a lack of planning for population growth and other issues such as no maintenance and the evil of corruption on a grans scale.
