Urban Exploration: ruins of Trunecek´s Mill in Prague
Hey there my Hive friends and followers!
I´m not a regular contributor to the Urbex Community here on Hive but yesterday, when I was exploring the Daleje Valley here in Prague, I came across something that I believe can fit in the urbex category. I just hope the ruins that I found are not already past the point of what urbex fans actually consider urbex because, as you will see in the photos below, the original structure has been decaying for long decades and most of it has already been taken over by the surrounding nature.
The ruins that this post is about are the remains of what used to be a mill that was standing on that site since at least the beginning of the 18th century. Over the centuries, the mill has had many different owners including the Trunecek´s family that owned the mill since the beginning of the 19th century until the end of the Second World War. It was this family that the mill was named after and has been known as the Trunecek´s Mill (or "Trunečkův Mlýn" in the Czech language) until these days.
From what I found on the internet, the mill was briefly used by some agricultural cooperative farm after the war but soon after that, it was abandoned and has been falling into disrepair ever since. After decades of dilapidation, there is not really much left from the original structure of the mill but it still looks interesting and kind of mysterious from the outside so I decided to check out the site and capture the ruins from wherever it was possible. Here are some of the shots that I took there.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures. As I already mentioned, I didn´t mean to visit these ruins, I was just on a little hike around the Daleje Valley, hoping to capture some nice pictures of nature for my nature photography challenge but even though it was already pretty warm and sunny yesterday, the vegetation is still in the process of slow awakening after the winter and there is not much greenery out in the forests yet so I ended up with photos of the ruins instead :)
But as I´m thinking about it right now, it probably was the perfect time to take pictures of the ruins because once the surrounding trees put on their leaves again, the ruins will not be as visible as they are now. In fact, the valley where the ruins are located is a part of a protected nature reserve and a popular recreational area frequented by the locals. The valley is a great place for hiking, jogging, cycling and even horse riding, I met some people on horses there yesterday too.
To find out the exact location of the ruins of the Trunecek´s Mill, feel free to check out the Pinmapple, I pinned it there ;)
Set in a lovely place, stumbling into the old mill with history attached interesting.
Photography captured through the old spaces once occupied by windows or doors, effective. Must be an urban explore it's got graffiti!

Thank you very much for this positive feedback and curation, it really means a lot as I haven´t visited many urbex sites in my life yet and thus not know if this one is cool or not :D
Not one to get into old places for fear of never coming out alive, this is out in the woods which makes it an unusual find, love the stream and setting as well.
Yeah, I think it takes some courage and affection for the mysterious / creepy to be a regular "urbexer" and while I may have a bit of both, I always tend to prefer natural sites to urban environment so that´s also why I don´t create urbex content more often :) The stream is the Daleje Stream and I believe the water from it powered the mill when it was still in operation...
Mills always need to be near a river, most business still enjoy waterside positions.
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
Hmm, nice you clicked an amazing shorts of this old historical place.
Thank you, I´m glad you enjoyed the pictures. I hope you also read the text and learned something new :)
Alright, yes I really want that If I can learn somthing good from you. thankyou can I add you on my discord?
Well, talking about learning something good, I think that writing genuine original posts and not AI generated content would be a great start, how about that?
So sad to see a historic building in ruins and tagged with graffiti. You have some great pictures there! Thanks for sharing!

Right. When preserved and taken care of well, a mill from early 18th century would probably look very nice and could be a popular tourist attraction of the area. And the internet says there are actually more ruined mills like this one in the vicinity. I haven´t seen them though. Thanks for stopping by :)
Thanks for responding! I look forward to seeing more of your posts!

You have taken some beautiful photographs of the ruins and the buildings seem to be quite old.
Thanks man :) The mill is at least 300 years old...

That's epic! Exactly the kind of place I'd sleep at /o/ It's also amazing how nature takes over. Once I slept in a place like this and woke up in the middle of the night afraid as fuck (I was dreaming).
I think I remember the post you wrote about that ghostly camping experience :D
Very old! I wish I could republish some stuff from the best ☹
Unfortunately reposting (even if re-written) isn't well seen here
Tell me about it! I wasted so much cool material for posts in my early days and weeks here when my fan base was literally non existent :D :/
I am not sure if this is a dungeon but if so, then only thing this place is missing would be some rare treasure chests :)
Tipuju, že podsklepené to bude, ale dovnitř se mi fakt nechtělo :)
To chápu, tohle už nemá statiku. Možná malým dronem.
A really magical place, excellent for this type of photos and also that luminosity and the environment have given you the possibility of making overwhelming and dramatic images!... Nice to see this @phortun friend!... Thank you very much for sharing!

Thanks for your kind feedback and support my friend, I wasn´t really sure what to expect from such kind of content but I´m glad to see that people like it :) I think it´s the eerie / mysterious atmosphere of ruins in general what attracts us to these places...

Ruins are very much UX, I have one coming up in the next few months in a similar state, albeit with less graffiti!
Cool :) Coming from you, the Urbex Guru of Hive, I take it as official that what I explored yesterday was an urbex site :) There should be some more ruins in that area so maybe, I will go there again for another photo shooting. Thanks for your feedback!
If its abandoned / derelict/ you are trespassing / nobody is telling you to not go there, or there, or there... then it's quite valid!
Perfect. I will be on the lookout for such sites :) Thanks.
Good to know, I may join you guys in the near future if there's room for one more urbexer 😀.
Awesome, looking forward to your urbex content :)

We also have in Romania such places in ruins, these places in the communist period were booming and after the fall of the communist system were vandalized and sold for nothing.
Well, ruins date to different times and eras. This one, in particular, is at least 300 years old. But from what I have found about it on the internet, it was during the communist era indeed when it started to decay. But the regime has long been gone (since 1989 here) so there surely were opportunities to save and preserve the landmark...
God, how many similarities between us, although we are not even neighbours as a country we have so much in common.
The same in Romania the communist period existed until 1989 (when the revolution came and removed the president, sentenced him to death), we also have Women's Day - 8 March (Mother's Day as we remember the name from the communist period).
If I look some more I'm sure I'll find some similarities😊
I think it´s actually not that surprising as your country was, just like mine, under the influence of the Soviet Union. I´m sure we would find many more similarities if we started to search for them but do we really want to commemorate those times? I don´t think so ;)
You are right if we want to look for similarities we will find many.
During the communist period I was only a few years old and did not feel the harshness of the system, and when I am old enough to understand what happened then, it is clear that I would not want to relive those times, although some old people who lived through those times believe that it was better then.
Same here. Everything ;) I was also too young to understand things when the regime was still here back then in late 80s, I too don´t want anything like that to happen again now that I´m old enough to comprehend what life was like back then but we do have old people here too who feel like it was better under the communist regime... Interesting. So we must be of the same (or very similar) age. I thought you were actually younger because I thought you were the same age as your friend MissDeli who I´m pretty sure is younger than me. Or maybe she just looks so young? :D
Hi, I apologize for not replying until now but I've been sick and the illness kept me bedridden and I couldn't actually concentrate to write a few lines, now I've recovered and I'm here again, I have to admit I'm not 100% recovered, I honestly don't even know what diagnosis I had, but it was very hard.
I turn 39 this year, I'm older than missdeli, hehe.
I´m sorry to hear that, I noticed you haven´t been active here lately... Get well soon my friend!

Although it's always sad to see someone's work in this stage, from photographic point of view, it's a beauty. You took some amazing shots. That mill could have been a historical site now if someone would have taken care of it. Obviously ownership and funds are always the main problem in cases like this.
Thank you Erika :) If you can see the beauty in these ruins, then you are probably are an urbexer indeed and I will be looking forward to checking out your contribution into this community. But yeah, it surely was possible to save the mill at some point in the past and turn it into a beautiful historical landmark, possibly even a museum as the complex must have been pretty large...
I'm the weirdo who can see beauty in ruins, so I hope I can contribute one day. There are no ruins where I live as land is expensive and ruins are cleaned up to have room for a new construction, but summer is coming, so it's time to GOOOOO 😀.
I hear you :) I´m also the weirdo who can see beauty where others cannot :D
