Paris and the loss of Mbappe's dream... a golden prison or super intelligence in keeping the stars?

Paris stars between the sports project and the comfort zone

Another battle that Paris Saint-Germain won this summer, by keeping French striker Kylian Mbappe, who decided to stay and give up the dream of moving to Real Madrid.

The efforts of Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of the club, Emmanuel Macron, President of France, and Fayza Al-Ammari, the player’s mother, came with a result for the young striker to continue in the Princes’ Garden until 2025.

Paris has kept its stars more than once and fought a lot of battles, but this time it looks completely different because Mbappe had already agreed to join Real before the shocking change that occurred in the last moments.

Which brings us to the most important question, is it a matter of superhuman intelligence and ability to keep players? The mother of the team’s stars is the one who prefers to stay in the Parisian comfort zone known as the “Golden Prison”.

puppet Theater

Paris have come under intense attacks over the past years, but what Donato Di Campelli, the former agent of Marco Verratti, has done has been even more impressive.

"My experience with Paris was the worst in my life, it hurt me a lot, Verratti doesn't exist for me anymore," De Campelli told the Italian newspaper, Toto Sport.

He added, "There is no appreciation in this club, Neymar and the rest of the players will never leave. It is like being in a golden prison that they do not want to leave. Some of the contracts they get are not found elsewhere. They continue with the team despite the fact that the French League is like a puppet theater." .

The Italian agent, despite his somewhat exaggerated expressions due to his personal position with Paris, bears a lot of truth, with some sacrificing the most successful sporting projects in exchange for huge financial contracts, comfort and less pressure.

But how was the last attempt of a player who decided to leave this golden prison and return to the pressures of his own free will?

Neymar battle

The Brazilian star left Barcelona in 2017, moving to Paris Saint-Germain in the deal of the century for 222 million euros, after a battle with the Catalan club.

The player wanted to be the first star and get out of the shadow of Lionel Messi to get the Golden Ball, in a place that seems better in terms of comfort, stability and less pressure.

But the shock was in his departure from Messi's shadow to find himself in the shadow of the young Kylian Mbappe, and he was also subjected to pressure and very strong attack campaigns from the Paris fans.

Several attempts by Barcelona, the last of which was last summer, to restore Neymar, and the player himself was pressing and expressing his willingness to make all the necessary financial sacrifices, but Paris refused.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of the French club, said about this attempt: "Barcelona tried to include Neymar until the end, but we refused it. They have a lot of financial crises and this is not our problem."

The result now is a severe deterioration in Neymar's career, and demands to abandon him after he reached the age of 30 and failed to reach the level required of him, but can one of the adults take the risk to get him out of this prison? Someone might do it but it would be a huge financial risk with a player whose injury history looks scary.

A talent we don't see often

Marco Verratti is one of the least highly regarded players in Europe, compared to the impressive levels he's produced since his emergence on the scene.

Verratti's real debut was with Paris only, the club he moved to from Pescara in 2012 for 12 million euros.

Yet many fans around the world only watch Verratti for a few matches during the Champions League, a tournament that his team fails time and time again.

Which makes the statement of his former agent true in every sense of the word, as he is in a golden prison where he gets what he wants from money and a stable life, but his achievements are limited only to the French League.

The 29-year-old admitted himself that he considered joining Barcelona in 2016, and said in press statements: "Yes, I received an offer to move to them and leave Paris and I thought about it."

Paris fought with all his might to convince the player to stay, and the matter came to the point of disagreements between the management of the French club and Barcelona, so that Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the club's president, won the battle in the end.

But imagine Verratti's career with the Barcelona generation led by Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar in the Spanish League and the Champions League, is it the same with Paris?

The problem is not in Paris

Lionel Messi was the last to decide to join this team, and signed a two-year contract with the possibility of renewing for another season, and if he activated the extension clause despite the modest season in which he appeared in his first year, he could only blame himself if his career collapsed.

The club administration is trying to bring the players and take advantage of the capabilities they possess without any compulsion, and the stars are signed to renew in the event of continuing with the team at their full control.

Paris is not the first club to spend money in this way, the biggest Italians, Real Madrid, Barcelona and England all preceded the French club, and they started in cooperation with players' agents to turn the game into a business that is controlled by money more than anything else.

The French club has huge potential and uses it intelligently, acting rationally in many situations to bring the best players to the Princes' Garden.

That is why Mbappe is the one who chose to stay in this “golden prison” and sacrifice the most stable project in Real Madrid, to obtain other privileges with Paris in exchange for giving up his dream, and if his career faltered and his dreams were lost in the Champions League and the Golden Ball, then the blame cannot be directed at Paris in any way. of shapes.

Paris is an over rated team full of has been players and the money is what keeps everyone happy. I actually don't blame Mbappe for staying as Real Madrid have huge debt. They owe salaries to the tune of $203 million and was reading they owe more than 1 billion pounds in debt and actually use the transfer market in a way called outstanding transfer payments as they don't have the financial resources everyone thinks they do. Why you would call Real Madrid a stable financial project is so far from the truth and you must read up on how they are in so much trouble. Not as bad as Barcelona but they also are like a house of cards and La Liga will have to step in if they don't fix things very soon.
Real are doing upgrades on their stadium which actually helps them with their debt as it gives them debt relief from the League.

I did not mean the financial project, but the sports project. Certainly, there is no room for comparison between the financial situation of the two teams, Real Madrid in addition to Inter Milan, Juventus and Barcelona to a greater extent, and their financial situation needs to be reconsidered.

Ok. That makes more sense then but you still can't build a better bigger project if you have no real funds. What happens if Real Madrid are given an ultimatum to fall into line like Barcelona with a structured wage cap? La Liga has to at some point and is only a matter of when this will happen.

Yes you are right and He should take a lesson from the current situation of the Barcelona team ,

What happens if Real Madrid are given an ultimatum to fall into line like Barcelona with a structured wage cap

They will go through what Barcelona went through or more

While Real Madrid may not be the best in terms of financial stability, an economic theory posits that the best form of financing is through debt. So, they're able to use debt to finance debt with each knocking off the other, allowing room for fresher debts and with the success they've been enjoying it's understandable how they've been able to stay afloat.

I agree it may be a ticking bomb and they need to find a more stable financial model.

I think it was a good choice for Mbappe to stay at PSG when he can make history by winning the UCL with PSG, Madrid has a lot of UCL already.

In a nutshell, money is ruining the game. PSG are just milking the money and influence to assemble and expensive and ultra talented team hoping that at some point they'll eventually gel and deliver the goods.
The problem here is that they'll still find it difficult to achieve anything tangible as these players have no real loyalty or commitment to the team, rather they're there for the money.

I just hope that other players learn from the current crop and not fall into trap, or perhaps prison.

Few are the players who run after football glory, and money is not their first concern. At the present time, it is very difficult for players to stand in the face of all these temptations.

I think that PAris is trying to play Ultimate Team without looking at the chemistry. They just buy names and most of the time not what the team really needs. I wonder if this might change if they get Jose Mouriniho. The other question would be whether Jose wants to take over such a life less team :/

Mourinho's idea in Paris Saint-Germain I like

And Paris Saint-Germain needs that man who implants a "fight-and-work mentality" in his players and renounces those who are condescending to it.

Quite slowly Paris became a much sought out club all across the world for two reason I think,
Smart move in transfer sections,
Secondly, the good manipulation of managers and the change of club owners to some extents.

It was a reality to mention that, just a few years ago, less people were seen to be viewing the ligue 1, now the witness total magnified to tri-numerals. Thats amazing, to be honest.

Definitely brought a number of stars like Missy, Neymar, Donnaruma Ramos, Ashraf Hakimi... Keeping Mbappe inside Ligue 1 is the reason for a paradigm shift in Ligue 1 but all of these are for players and more in one team, where is the competitiveness within the league and the rest of the teams with players at a normal level

It may not be undeniable that money was a reason for Mbappe staying, I believe it goes beyond that. More factors like the fear of change and having stayed in a place for a long time. We saw how difficult it was for Messi to leave Barcelona which wasn't because of money and he was eventually "forced" to leave. It's just quite different because PSG have the money to throw around. Mbappe is a local boy and even if he doesn't leave, I won't be surprised. We've seen great players follow that path. I just doubt he'd conquer Europe from there with the way things are currently. Maybe if they have a change in management, things might change.

Regardless, Real Madrid will be fine without Mbappe.

The fear is that he will be the new version of Neymar and the loss of another star, it is very difficult to prove that he is the best from within the French League
