The Sport of Walking as a Healthy Habit for Older Adults
This topic caught my attention because yesterday I was participating with my wife in a walk in the community of Villa de Cura, in the state of Aragua, Venezuela, where we could see that a higher percentage of walkers were people aged from 60 years, ie older adults, who have been motivated to perform this type of exercise that gives them great health benefits.
Previously this sport was not very popular in my country, but with the pandemic of Convid 19, sports activities were affected, due to measures to protect against this disease, then as people had more time in our homes, went out in the mornings and afternoons to walk, racing competition was reduced and emerged the street walks and hiking throughout the country, this not only motivated older adults but also young people and adults, which was becoming popular in different states of the country.
Now this was becoming a healthy habit, where older adults, with young people and adults, who are the protagonists of this new sport, which provides them all with great health benefits, such as stress reduction, prevents different heart diseases, diabetes, has a better resistance and development of muscle strength, and also reduces aging, this in turn is constantly improving the quality of life of older adults.
It is worth mentioning that there are no limits to practice sports, if the person is an older adult, the most advisable is to have a medical checkup to determine if he/she is fit to practice any type of sport that adapts to his/her age and physical conditions, because if the person has any problem the doctor will recommend what type of sport he/she can practice.
To finish I want to tell you that in one of the walks that I have participated one of the walkers who was next to me is a person of 70 years old, who has a great experience in walks and carts, and because of this sport does not seem to have that age, as the saying goes want is power, when we like a sport and this is an excellent healthy habit, then we must keep them in our agenda for our health.
I hope you liked this topic, based on my experience as a runner and walker, see you in the next publication.
