Early morning gift!

004.jpg

I sat in the garden at sunrise and the first sunrays showed me this beautiful visitor.

They say that the early bird catches the worm, in my case the dragonfly and I will show you how beautiful this lady is in the morning.
Guaranteed that no guy will pass by without doing their utmost to greet this lady.
Come and see.

She is a female "Navy Dropwing" (Trithemis furva) sitting on one of our succulent flowers.
008.jpg

As I slowly got up from my chair, I could get some clearer shots of her.
010.jpg

Then she changed her position and bang! There she was in her full beauty.
032.jpg

This photo was taken with the white wall of our house behind her.
031.jpg

But then Harry and Sally arrived with their usual racket for breakfast, so the lady disappeared and it was time to put the food out for the Egyptian geese.
002.jpg

A brief moment breaking my meditation concentration, but I didn't mind at all, as such beauty is always welcome.
Amazing how mother nature can surprise one unexpectedly, but I always have my camera at hand and just as well, as otherwise I would have missed this spectacular show.

And That's All Friends!

Note: All photos are my own and taken with a Canon Powershot SX60HS Bridge camera.

We hope that you have enjoyed the story and the pictures.

Exceptional luck on the day with white wall showcasing her delicate wings and body, never a dull moment in nature Stephen.

Dragonflies are always beautiful and this one would certainly have been a welcome snack for Harry and Sally 😉
Cool photos as always, Zac, I like the one with the white wall in the background most - very good shot 👍😀

Hahaha, Harry and Sally are vegans Hannes, they belong to the international Egyptian Goose Vegan Society. So, the Drag was safe, but I just think that the Drag didn't like Harry's farting 🤣

So, you are the second one that likes the white wall shot. Too bad for my first picture shot 😎

Cheers and thanks.

Vegan birds? Cool - my daughter is vegetarian and she doesn't fart that much, but when she goes to that college she will be living with two friends in an appartment who are vegan. Maybe if she eats vegan with them she might get worse?

Yep, the first and also the other shots are good, but the white wall make the image pop :)

Shhhh! Shush! Quiet! Marian might see this and she will most certainly give me a written ultimatum.
Become vegan, or die! And I think you know why 🤣
Hey, that rhymes, so I am a poet and I don't know it 🤣

We will have to pray for your daughter my friend and hopefully she will marry a vegan husband then they can fart each other silly 🤣

Glad that you liked the shot.

Cheers and thanks.

I wouldn't have expected poetry on a comment about vegan lifestyle :)

The vegans and the vegetarians don't want us to kill and eat animals, but they eat their food - maybe a cow will die of hunger because of that 🤣

Poetry fits anywhere boet, as the bards were never known to let their poetic opportunities slip 🤣

Shame, so the vegans eat the cow's food and what about the skinny little rabbits that were once fat before the vegans started.

Luckily goats and especially mountain goats can eat anything and the should start to eat the vegans clothes, so that they can feel how it is without when they run around naked in the snow 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

So you have seen these poor rabbits too? There's no meat on them for us to eat 😎

Right, goats can eat anything, from clothes to cigarettes, you can feed us them anything 🤣

Hahaha, cute photo and yes we have them too. Very skinny, so we can blame the vegans.
So funny as believe it or not, a new old friend replied to my post and they farm with goats in the Karoo area. They also sell goat milk and make soap.
About 295 kilometers from here, so it will take about a 3 hour drive to get there.

Yes, you goats eat anything 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Harry and Sally! Hilarious. I love your choice of names for the wildlife @papilloncharity. Although you have captured the sunlit little dragonfly perfectly, the third photo is my favourite. Those huge purple shimmering globes of eyes and the fine detail in her wings. Beautiful

Hahaha, I have posted many times about Harry the warrior, as even the cats bite their nails when he comes to eat and Sally is a real prim lady.
Glad that you liked the Drag shots and it was a nice surprise.

Whereabouts are you guys in the Karoo? And you are up late, as normally the people there sleep the same time as the chickens?

My friends call me Zac.

Often when I meet people I can say: "hey, I have a goat with your name!" But this time yours is the same as my son! Pleased to meet you Zac. We're in the Klein Karoo. Tussen erens en nerens. In the greater Anysberg area. Four hours from Cape Town in one direction and four hours from George in the other. And the reason that I am up way later than my chickens is that I have very little children who like to defy sleep. But when they succumb to sweet dreams then this mama has work to do!!

Wow! Glad that your son has a good name my friend and I won't mind if you gave my name to a goat.
All that I know about Anysberg is that there is a beautiful nature reserve there, but we have not visited it yet.
Yeah, thank goodness my three children are all adults and their children keep them up, so I have my revenge 🤣
We relocated to the Cape from Johannesburg about 2 years ago and have started up new charity projects here. The Karoo is a great place and I remember the silence well as we often visited when I was in the army in Oudtshoorn.

Stay well my friend.

Funny you should say that. One of my first little boy goats ever was Zach! The Karoo is a special place. Very hard but beautiful. We love the peace. Silence

So charity explains your chosen hive name! And has me curious. What exactly? Excuse my question. We have seen so much tragedy over the last year. So many struggling. So many trying to help

(Edited)

So? You seem to have an issue with the Zac name?

There is much strength in silence my friend as it walks hand in hand with the beauty of nature and their cousin is truth. The real truth that is as hard as the Karoo and that we all try to hide from by wearing masks.

This is the 20th year anniversary of The Papillon Foundation and as a gift a company has donated a new website to us, that we are still working on, but maybe you will like the start.

That is exactly what I wrote about in my recent post "Having walked this almost unbearable journey I have no answers. I have no words. What I do have is silence". As far as masks goes. People have always hidden behind masks. The only difference now is that it is a law.

My butterfly loving kiddos approve of your developing website! Congratulations. That is really amazing. I have a question, considering all your beautiful insect photography, is there an insect day here on hive? I've really been out of the loop. A couple of my favourite days (when I was still @buckaroo on steemit) is now gone. Or do you just use appropriate tags? We have some exquisite insect and bird life here that I like to share

Hahaha, I think that we all wear double masks now 🤣
Yes, I vaguely remember @buckaroo, so you are an old hand at this, maybe just a bit rusty, but thankfully not damaged :)

Glad that the kids like butterflies and I presume that you told them Papillon is the French word for butterfly?

Blessings and hope that you guys will have a good weekend.

Thank you for the tip @papilloncharity. And encouraging words. Yes a bit rusty but hopefully I'll get back in the swing of it quickly. Bit of a blonde question - maybe - posting for a community is new to me. If I post there does it automatically reflect in my feed? Or do I post on my page and in the community?

Good morning from a wet Cape and always my pleasure to help.
No, everthing that you post will reflect on your own blog if you click the share icon at the top of the page before you write your post. So you don't have to post twice.

I hope you will get more as we are wet now and will be for the next 4 days before the rain stops.
Our Greek friends in Struisbaai had their town flooded.

I am on a few channels on Discord and if you want to ask anything about Hive you can always drop a question in there.

Great that you guys had more rain and I twittered a damages report a while ago.
Much rain has fallen in the Overberg area.

Yes, I know that road between Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn, as I did my army service in Oudtshoorn at 1SAI. Bad news.

A happy Friday to you guys and stay well.
