We Are Alive! December 25th, 2024 Persimmon Jam

Among our collection of food that we picked up yesterday, was several bags of something that looked like tomatoes. As we looked closer, we realized they were not tomatoes, but "perisimmon" fruit.

What is persimmon? We had to look it up to get some ideas of what we could do with them!

We've never tried the fruit before, so it was an adventure trying it for the first time. It was sweet, firm texture, reminded us sort of like a peach or date. Not tart at all.

We didn't know what to do with all this fruit, so we do what we often do when we have a lot of fruit: make jam!

We cut off the tops and sliced the fruit into chunks. The tops will make some good compost for us.

We're going to cook the chunks down into a sauce. There is enough natural pectin in the fruit to make jam, so we just add sugar and citrus.

It was my daughter's job to juice the limes. She did it with pleasure!

We were going to actually can this to store in our pantry, but if it's good, we might just refrigerate it and eat it up over the next few weeks. Makes great gifts too, how unusual: persimmons jam!

Once it's finished, I'll report how it turned out!

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.

I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

It's nice to try out new fruits and what a great idea to turn them into jams. Waiting to hear how it all turned out at the end.

Over here, we call that fruit "kaki", for whatever reason. It is grown in and imported from Israel and Southern Spain from what I've seen. Never tried jam, I eat it fresh, but jam should be nice too.

Persimmons are such a unique fruit, aren't they?
Sweet and slightly exotic in flavor.
Making jam with them is such a great idea.

Persimmon don't grow in our country but we get to eat it from time to time. Not as common as apples ang oranges though. It's still an unusual fruit for us.
