A Sunday to remember
Last Sunday was my mother-in-law's birthday. We were so excited that we began planning three months before the birthday. The discussions were alive, from choosing the theme to coordinating decorations and creating the guest list. We couldn't wait for the day to arrive, counting down the weeks and picturing the celebration and memories that would be made. Despite the fact that she was born on December 23rd, a Friday, she chose to hold her party on a Sunday.
We dashed home after Sunday service to finish up decorations and prepare for the impending arrival of guests as the sun cast its fiery rays on the surroundings. The air was thick with heat, forcing us to hold the event outside.
The grounds were decorated with colorful balloons and festive decorations. A banquet awaited at one end of the compound, with a meticulously arranged display of a decadent cake, refreshing drinks, and a spread of delectable treats. There were white chairs and neatly arranged tables. Each piece was placed with care creating a harmonious arrangement that beckoned for moments of relaxation beneath the open sky.
Soon, guests began to arrive, and the air was filled with warm greetings and laughter, accompanied by the rhythmic backdrop of music playing in the background. The family was dressed in a teal-green color scheme. As we awaited the arrival of the celebrant and her husband, each member wore their teal attire with a sense of unity, adding a touch of elegance to the awaiting celebration.

The moment arrived, and the celebrant made a grand entrance, dressed to the nines in an army green George wrapper and blouse. Her outfit exuded regality, combining tradition with a modern twist. Her husband complemented the theme perfectly, dressed in an army green senator suit with a matching hat and a staff, exuding a dignified presence.
A special song titled "Buga" by Kiss Daniel played in the background as the celebrant and her husband made their entrance. The lively melody set the tone for their entrance, and they danced in perfect harmony with each step. The photographer took advantage of the opportunity, ensuring that every smile, dance step, and vibrant atmosphere were preserved in a series of memorable photographs.
The celebrant and her husband were ushered to their seats. The Master of Ceremonies took center stage and opened the celebration with prayers. Following the prayers, he welcomed the guests and invited the celebrant and her husband to cut her cake under the spell of Jesus' sacred name. A wave of applause swept through the air, followed by a joyful rendition of the "Happy Birthday" song.
The celebrant then took the center stage and demonstrated her dancing abilities. People began to shower her with money as a celebratory gesture. I wanted to do the same, but my baby wouldn't stop crying. I scanned the crowd and found her father gisting away with some friends at a corner.
I walked up to him and dropped her in his arms. "Could you please take her for a bit? She's been crying a lot."
"I was just about to join the fun. Can't she stay with you for a bit longer?" He protested.
"I've been trying, but she seems fussy. A little daddy-daughter time might help."
I was already on the dance floor with my mother-in-law before he could respond. I challenged her to a dance competition, and we turned the dance floor into a stage for friendly rivalry. We had a lot of fun with our lively moves, each trying to outdo the other with joyful enthusiasm.
The sun kissed the day goodbye as darkness descended, signaling the end of the party. We said our goodbyes to the guests. Our tired bodies were greeted by piles of dirty plates and a littered floor. We embarked on a cleaning spree and restored order to the space that housed memories we would cherish for the rest of our lives.

Wow!
Happy birthday to grandma.
It's obvious that you had fun.
Tell my lovely baby that we party a lot in Nigeria so she should get used to it.😁
Hehehe! She really needs to get used to it cos she has a habit of crying at every party.
Thanks for stopping by❤️
You're welcome 🤗
She's like... ain't nothing or nobody taking my mama from me... hehe 😁🥰
What a lovely party and what a gorgeous celebration of your mother-in law. We can see from your family photo that everyone went to a lot of effort to make it special for her. I loved that you jumped in there and gave your baby to daddy to soothe so that you could get down and throw some dance moves on the floor with your mother-in-law. It sounds like the two of you have a mutually respectful and joyful relationship. That is always so lovely to see within the complexity of family dynamics.
