When Love Owes You Money: The Unusual Hero

avatar

Do you want to know what caused an ex of mine and me to break up? He owed me some money and didn’t want to pay.

I believe everyone has a principle or a set of values that govern their life and behaviors. One of mine happens to be that if I owe you money, I’ll give you a date in which I’ll pay you back the money, and, best believe it or not, you do not need to remind me because I will most definitely pay you back.

I’m sure that this is a universal problem because for some reason, a certain group of people have devoted their lives to making the lives of others unbearable by lending money and absconding.

In the span of my lifetime, I have been able to recognize two different kinds of these people.

The Runners

These are the ones that come to you with an award-winning sob story, complete with tears and sad facial expressions. They might even throw in their kids so they can get an emotional reaction from you.

Then they promise you heaven and earth, “When my salary comes in, I will give you back the money immediately”, or “When this deal pulls through, I will pay you back with interest.”.

After listening to them, you feel so bad that you convince yourself that you don’t really need the money, at least not as badly as they do. So you give it out.

Then the deadline reaches, and you hear nothing from them. A week or two flies by, and still not a peep. So you reach out to them, only to notice that they’ve blocked you on every channel possible.

Annoying right?

Then there’s the Audacious Dragons.

These are the masters at gaslighting. They usually go for people with low self-esteem, or soft people. People that they know will feel bad for asking for their money back.

You know why I call them audacious? They won’t even bother running away. The deadline to collect your money will come, and they will keep talking to you as if y’all are best of buddies.

The deadline will pass you by, and these people will suddenly develop amnesia and forget they ever borrowed money from you. They will keep up your relationship and even go out to events with you.

Right in your presence, these people will spend more money than they owe you on drinks and food. And you’d just take the whole thing in, because what could you do? It’s not like you could confront them right there and then. You’re too soft for that.

This strikes a chord with me because I have had this done to me so many times that I have gotten to a point where I don’t lend money anymore. It can be very frustrating too, because these people will make you feel like asking for your money back is a crime.

If I were to be a superhero, I would want people to know me as someone who fought on behalf of unsuspecting, kindhearted people who borrowed money and were too soft to ask for it back, or as someone who got scammed by the "runners.".

I believe my superhero skills will be needed in all different parts of the world🙂😅

Imagine trying to ask for your money and it feels as if you are begging from the one who owes you. So funny but that is how it is. Some people will owe you and still be gaslighting you. On top my money oo? This is why I do not loan anyone except for the money I know I can afford to lose because by lending out your money, it feels as if you are intentionally losing it.

Reminds me of one
I made an out fit for someone around March this year
This guy told me he needed the cloth urgently that Sunday
He brought it some days before then
After I made the clothes he's being telling me all sort of shit I'm a student and all ( like I wasn't also a student )
Months passed by I got extremely broke my phone got spoilt I was empty
I called him to send what he owed me all he gave were excuses stupid ones
The funny thing was that he told me money came in for him but he spent it uselessly
This is some one that travels every week back to were he stays from school He spends 10 k for transporting every week or more

I later poured out my word to him on Whatsapp
He still said he's a student got to a new location trying to settle in and all, he's not working for now like he's the only one with problem
I just decided to let him have it
I told him when he has it he should use it to solve his problem that was the last time I spoke to him and I will never again . If I get to he's gonna get a punch for sure 🙂 but I'm over that as well 🙂
