Balance in Bowls and Plates
Has this ever happened to you? Maybe you want to go wash plates, and on your way, your elder sibling, clearly seeing you go to wash the plate, then instructs you to go wash the plate like it was his idea?
No, because now I don’t feel like washing it anymore😅
For some reason, dishes have proved to be a source of controversy, at least around people I come into contact with. My friends always express pure and absolute disdain for washing dishes, and sometimes I wonder what the dishes did to them.

Personally, I don’t mind it, as long as there’s soap, water, and a good sponge.
If I were to use two words to describe my dishware, they would be minimal and simple.
When I was still a student, my dishware literally consisted only of two flat plates, two bowl plates (soup plates), two pots, and two sets of spoons and forks. Oh, and a plastic cup. There was no sense in owning anything beyond that because I was only cooking for myself.
Right now I’m back home with my family, and judging from the number of people at the house currently, I’d say our dishware is minimal as well. When I say dishware, I refer to the plates, cups, and cutlery we keep on standby in the kitchen.
What Impacts my Choice of Minimal Dishware?
Like I said, we only have just about enough dishware to go around to everyone at home. This is due to a plethora of reasons. None of which include finance, by the way.
The major reason is to improve functionality. We are a family of four children and a parent, so we aren’t that many. It will be an unnecessary hassle if we stock our kitchen counter with a lot of dishes we won’t end up using.
Plus, more dishes would mean more piles of dirty plates in the sink since there would be more than enough plates. Nobody is going to want to wash a dirty plate when there is a clean one on the rack.
Another reason is the lack of space in the rack. As you can see from the rack, there isn’t ample space to load dishes onto. Why buy new ones when there’ll be no home for them? Granted, we do have some casserole dishes in storage, but we only use them when entertaining guests.
My mom is not super crazed about having a certain aesthetic in the kitchen, so we literally get new plates only when we absolutely need them. I reckon I’ll follow in her footsteps when I get older and have my own place. It only makes sense.

Hello @zitalove
First of all, I appreciate your effort in taking some decent photos for your post.👏
Secondly, nice reasoning.
When I started living on my own at 19 years old, I had 1 plate, 1 fork, 1 spoon, 1 knife, 1 frying pan, 1 saucepan, and 1 glass, which my friends ridiculed.
At that time, I was working very little wages, and I lived alone. I always washed the plate, the glass and utensils as I used them, and I never saw the need to purchase more. Whereas, my friends bought fancy sets on hire-purchase and told me that I should do the same. I explained to my friends that I had no intention of hosting and that if they decided to come there to eat, they should take their plates. They said I belonged in a cave.
My mum has a cabinet of expensive kitchen sets that she got for her wedding over 45 years ago that she never uses except when visitors come. Her actions became my pet peeve.
I get the feeling that you'll adopt the practicality of your mum.
All good wishes:)
Thanks for your #KISS
I enjoyed it 😉

Hiiii Milly!!
Thank you so much. It was fun taking them so I loved it.
You moved out of the house at 19? That shows how strong willed you are. And also, I agree with you too, there is no need to have more than one set of everything if you're not going to be entertaining people. I get it.
Now getting rid of one's wedding gift, I imgaine, is not the easiest thing in the world😅, so I understand where your mum is coming from as well. The gifts are sentimental.
Thank you Milly for reading my work and appreciating my efforts. This thorough comment means a lot to me and thank you to for sharing your story with me.
Have a nice week ahead!
You're very welcome.
Have a nice week too:)
Heyyy zita!
OK, it seems I'm not the only one who gets so angry at likely situation as yours. The way i just turn to go to my room without washing the dishes again cracks me up sometimes😄.
I've always loved to keep things minimal in my school hostel. I mean, what is the essence of having so many wares without using them.
It feels like a burden to me seeing so many dish wares, i just keep things tidy and minimal, that's all.
Best wishes!!
Me too!!😂
I also don't see need to have a lot of plates when you sure aren't going to use them.

Life is simpler with a few dishes. That way you won't have to wash so many at the e nd of the day.

First off, your favourite dishware is really pretty and I'm sure it would have been my favourite as well, judging from its look. I resonated a lot with that first part where the older sibling or even my mom would ask me to wash a plate. I'll be like, "that's literally what I'm doing."
A very annoying thing fr.😄
The points you gave are apt and well understandable. Lots of !luv dear.🌺
I know right? Thank you
Exactly😅😅. Like "do you not see me about to wash them?"
