I am fine

I said to myself: it's strange that the weekend in Kyiv went by without numerous air raids. And today, a massive missile attack that is still going on. I decided to work in the office in the morning. From the balcony, we have a good view of everything around us.

At first, I thought the sounds were coming from inside the building, maybe someone was moving furniture on the top floor. It took me a while to realize that it was the air defence system shooting down missiles. I went out to the balcony and saw white "lines" in the sky - traces of missiles. It was quiet, it seemed like everything was over.

After 5 minutes, the sounds of explosions were heard again. There were many of them. I went out to the balcony again. Since the beginning of the war, I feel safe only in a shelter, but if I'm not there, I feel calmer when I see the horizon, the sky. As if I can control something. What I saw was terrifying. There were puffs of smoke, white and black, rising in different places around us, and the sounds of explosions did not stop. Smoke was rising even from the area of the American embassy. I went inside, the next moment I heard a loud whistle of a rocket, and ran to the shelter in the basement pf the office center.. The stairs were full of people who were also running down to the shelter. The shelter was full of people.

The worst thing is uncertain and unknown. There is a lot of talk about the consequences in Telegram channels, but given the directions of smoke, there were several hits in the area of my house. And they don't write anything about them. I hope my house is safe. My hubby called, he is fine. Now we are waiting for the evening. Although, I don't want to work at all. Cannot focus.

When I took the selfie for the post, I was amazed at how....scared my face was. It took a lot of takes.

Anyway, I am fine. I wish these bastards a slow agonizing death and an eternity in hell.

P.S. The Air raid is all clear.

I'm really glad you're okay. It's hard to even imagine what you're going through, but your strength and courage are incredible. Stay safe, and I hope everything calms down soon.

Don't you get warning sirens?

Of course, we have. But in most cases, they mean that "the carrier of such and such a rocket took off", or it was shelling other cities. Besides, I got used to the fact that all or almost all missiles/drones are shot down on the approach to Kyiv, on the outskirts (I live in midtown). But today there are so many hits :(((

In Israel the siren only goes off if the missile is going to hit your local area. Also you get an alert on your phone.

I heard that Ukrainians often ignore sirens because they are not sufficiently localised. An Israeli friend was in Ukraine and was quite surprised how people ignored sirens but he asked and they said, like you have, that they are usually far away.

Understandable behaviour, but risky.

Keep safe.

Agree. But the type of rockets fired at Israel is different. As far as I know.

think it is a different type of missile. this shit flies straight till it gets to the destination, it does not have a trajectory so you can't calculate where it will drop.
and when you hear the sirens every day and it is probably going at a bridge or a anti-aircraft defense 50km away you start to think they will probably not drop a 4 million dollars Tomahawk on my house. People in smaller towns ignored it after a week or two.
being a stupid 15 year old probably helped too.

Hypersonic missiles that the twat in Russia launched today travel at up to 5 miles per second. Not much use a warning siren when the c*nt launches with the intention of killing innocent civilians, in this case a children's hospital so we hear.

Hamas fires missiles at Israeli civilians from much closer (5-50km) than Russia fires at Kiev (200-500km) so even though they are faster, warning sirens save lives by allowing people time to get to shelters.

As I have personally experienced dozens of times as Hamas has tried to kill my family.

Russia only occasionally goes after civilian targets. Hamas ALWAYS fires at civilian targets.

I don't know about non-civilian targets of todays attack in Kyiv.

My friend, there are no tzadikim in these wars. The Russians are bastards doing one hand with Iran and Hamass... the US are interesants forcing us to help our enemies.
No use justifying nobody. Just fight to the win. And the winner will write history and justify the winners. Thats how it goes unfortunatly...

I'm glad you both weren't hurt and can't imagine how agonizing this has been for all of you. This war needs to end soon. Try to hang in there and know that many people in the world are thinking about you and praying for you.

Thank you for your support, my friend. To be honest, I wasn't hurt just because the missile did not hit our office center. But my hubby wasn't hurt only because he reacted to the whistling of the rocket correctly and in time... Thanks God!

You’re welcome! I’m glad you both are safe. We keep hearing rumors about peace talks starting on this side of the ocean. I’m not sure if it’s true or just propaganda.

I think there will be more talks about peace this year. But what is this abstract peace? How to achieve it? Devil is in the details, but populists are increasingly popular

I can't even imagine what you're going through. It's so scary to think about the uncertainty and the fear of not knowing what's happening. I'm glad you and your husband are safe. Sending you all my best and hoping for a peaceful future.
