Elevated by Excellence: The Lasting Power of Star Performers
Elevated by Excellence: The Lasting Power of Star Performers
Every year, the world stage is set for certain people to shine as shining stars. From sports to music to movies, it's a special breed of performers who deliver star quality shows that will wow everyone.
This is what people call a "star performance" - when one talented individual rises up and does something so extraordinary, it becomes the highlight of the entire event or even the entire year!
For sports like the Olympics, World Cup or NBA Finals, it's the athletes who will thrill us with star performances. Like Michael Phelps winning eight gold medals at a single Olympics. Or Usain Bolt breaking multiple world records with his blazing speed on the track.
Or that time Michael Jordan scored 63 points in a single NBA playoff game! Superhuman feats like those remind us of just how gifted and hardworking some sports stars truly are.
For music and showbiz, it's singers, dancers, actors and comedians who bring the star performances anytime they do major concerts, award shows or stand-up specials.
Whitney Houston's 1991 Super Bowl national anthem still ranks among the most iconic star performances ever. How she commanded that stage with just her powerful vocals still gives many people chills to this day.
Who could forget that three-hour Coachella show when Beyoncé thrilled over 100,000 live audience members with her energy, choreography and vocals? Now that was showmanship and a star performance!
The same goes for when comedians like Richard Pryor or Eddie Murphy did sold-out comedy specials. They'd bring thunderous laughter from start to finish in a way that would paralyze your ribs.
For award shows like the Oscars or Grammys, acting legends like Denzel Washington or musical icons like Michael Jackson would do things on stage that blew everyone's mind that night.
Anytime a star performance happens, it's special because it surpasses all expectations. The person taps into a special wellspring of talent, preparation and adrenaline rush to deliver the unexpected.
Even if you're watching a movie or show at home, you'll still recognize a star performance when you see it. It's a kind of scene or act that stands out because of the jaw-dropping display of skill.
Like Heath Ledger portraying The Joker in "The Dark Knight" movie. Or Meryl Streep embodying Margaret Thatcher for "The Iron Lady." Their commitment and transformations are still seen as some of the greatest acting star performances.
Part of what makes a star performance so memorable and impactful is because it's rare. Only once in a while does one person find that perfect mix of luck, skill and magic to hit that next level.
It's not something you can easily manufacture or replicate. Just like how the best goals, plays or viral sports moments are born out of spontaneous reaction and instincts in the heat of competition.
For a musician or actor, it's years of disciplined training and mastering their craft that preps them to operate on that transcendent plane. But it still takes an unexplainable spiritual force joining in before a true star performance can happen.
Anytime we bear witness to star performances, the energy transcends entertainment and inspires us spiritually. It makes us remember our highest God-given potential as humans.
The great Muhammad Ali captured it well when he said: "He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life."
Because it's a real risk and sacrifice these stars undertake to give us those jaw-dropping, soul-stirring performances. They go all in and bare their souls for the world to see and experience peak human greatness.
And it's no small thing for anyone - celebrity or regular person - to willingly put themselves out there like that. To embrace the vulnerability of trying to create something special. It's easy to play it safe and take shortcuts.
But the reason star performances get etched forever into our souls is because they represent the highest embodiment of human potential. They help us dream beyond limitations. They inspire us to tap into our own deepest wells of courage and excellence.
So anytime we recognize a star performance, let's be grateful for the inspiration and hope it provides us all. The magic lies in seeing peak greatness that fires up belief in our own lives too.

Mohammed Ali said it all. These people we are giving, applause today, they took the risk to achieve what we are celebrating them for.
It is inspiring to think about the dedication and talent required to reach that level of excellence.
It's a great experience to watch star performances. @zino01
