Mastercard and Polygon are teaming up to launch a web3-powered Artist Accelerator
Hey Peeps!
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 6th, Mastercard unveiled their plans to launch the "Mastercard Artist Accelerator" on the Polygon blockchain.
After the announcement was made at CES, Polygon followed up with a blog post that went into more detail regarding the new Web3 project.
The official launch date has not been announced yet, but the artist engagement aspect of the program will begin in the "Spring of 2023".
The Mastercard Artist Accelerator program will focus on preparing five musical artists with "the tools, skills, and access to forge their own musical paths in the digital economy."
The artists selected for this program will learn how to expand their brands through minting NFTs, building an online presence, and establishing a community.
“The Mastercard Artist Accelerator not only shows the power of brands embracing this new space, it provides tools that can educate consumers on how to participate. This is an important step forward in opening up the benefits of Web3 to more people.” - Ryan Wyatt, CEO of Polygon Studios
Here is the tweet by Polygon announcing the collaboration:
Here is the announcement video that Mastercard posted to YouTube:
“Music is a universal passion, inspiring us, moving us, and bringing us together; however, it can feel impossible for budding artists to break in. With the Mastercard Artist Accelerator we are expanding access and driving connections further with cutting-edge Web3 technology. Our vision is to bridge passion and purpose, spotlighting amazing emerging artists and creating an interactive community that allows participants to learn, experiment and grow together.” - Raja Rajamannar, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer of Mastercard
When the Mastercard Artist Accelerator program is finally launched, a limited NFT called the "Mastercard Music Pass" will also be released.
The NFT will give holders access to "Web3 x music educational materials, unique tools through our collaborations, and Priceless experiences in real life, and the Metaverse."
There is no official word on how to acquire this NFT, but the blog post says that "with this token, fans can join the platform and learn alongside artists to sharpen their own tools and knowledge of the space".
This indicates to me that both artists and non-artists can participate in the Web3 platform, even if they are not in admitted into the accelerator program.
