Broken Promises ~ Compounding Lies
The last time I remember making a promise I couldn't keep is about 7 years ago. I was still in high school at the time and didn't quite understand life as much as I do now. Then I would go about making promises that are most times unattainable just because I either wanted to please someone or get off a particular situation.
I remember making a promise to one of my friends who turned my school daughter back then in school. Since it has been such a long time, I can't remember what the promise was about but I can never forget the incident as it was a life-changing one. That very day was when I stopped making promises I knew I couldn't keep or may not be able to keep in the long run.
I began to watch my words and steps and not dare attempt to promise people something I can't do or redeem.
Failed And Broken Promises
Even the scripture says that it is better not to vow than to vow and not pay. Do not cause your mouth to sin by making unnecessary promises and vows you can't pay or keep. It's better to not promise at all than do that without keeping it under any circumstances at all.
I will pause and let us rethink, how often do we make promises we end up not keeping? How bad does it get after that? Do we still go ahead and make new ones? Forgetting our bad experiences or past promises? Have we no shame when it comes to promising and failing? A lot of us, forget how awful the past lies were and still go ahead to make new ones.
Some unconsciously fall into the trap of making promises after promises even without redeeming the old and pending ones. How much more do we have to keep these things up?
We have to learn to adapt and adjust as we grow. You don't really have to raise your hands each time to promise what you can't afford or take the risk at all. Do not be pressurized into doing what you don't wanna do or can't do. No one will face the consequences of your actions later on but you. No one knows how much or how far you can go, so don't make lame and unreasonable promises at the expense of your soul. It's okay not to say anything or promise anything even if everyone else does it or the condition is too tight, don't let the crowd push you when you can't live up to their expectations.
Always remember that it is better not to promise at all than to promise and not redeem it thereby making enemies for yourself.
