#BeerSaturday - A Summer of Beerology!

It is week 273 of #beersaturday, and I looking back on summer adventures of a Beerologist

As we all know, being The Blockchain Beerologist definitely has its perks, including but not limited to getting paid to tour breweries and sample new beers! When I am not globetrotting or brewing my own beer, my fridge looks like a colorful mosaic of regional craft beer I enjoy sharing with the #beersaturday alliance of #beer bloggers on #hive.

This week, I highlight a summer adventure as the Blockchain Beerologist in Canada!

The PotW is plenty of fun because it is usually a beer enjoyed on the town or otherwise in a social / business setting that we is a bit of a treat. This week, I pick my 3 favourite delicious and photogenic Pints of the Week!

Summer shows on this wonderful sweaty pint from Flying Monkeys Brewery while I enjoy a patio concert.

A visit to the original local craft brewery Black Swan Brewing for one of the beers responsible for my descent into IPA obsession, Galaxy, Mosaic and Citra hops. Seems fitting that the office of our business https://www.towncriermarketing.ca is right across the street about where the L is on this classic logo.

Visiting craft breweries while on vacation at the cottage is about as good as it gets. This pair of Blairhampton Triangle IPA pints poured from the pitcher are a bit of summer perfection in the eyes of a Beerologist.

Summer Brew-It-Yourself

IMG_0055.jpeg

Most of my Zeke's Hops hype comes from the wild and crazy labels on all of the regional craft beers I incessantly seek, taste and share. For me, the biggest movement this summer was settling into the experimentation and schedule of brewing our own beer. We teamed up with a Cicerone that has a brewery in his garage and helped an Amber specialist brew some of the baddest IPA around. Brewing starting with crushing our own grain, crafting the malt and hop recipe, and seeing it through to the kegs of beer we pour at a few locations, this summer has been something special.

IMG_2492.JPG

Not only did I get to elevate my game from enjoyer, brewery tech and marketing provider to creating our own, we took our beer to cottage country. A CO2 cannister, 20-liter keg of our own IPA, and a jockey box with a chilling coil and ice, made for almost unlimited cold draft beer 4 hours from home! Not sure I can cottage again without this setup!

IMG_2900.JPG

We have some big plans when it comes to a hive-enabled review and subscription project and the possible next evolution of the brewery. While we bake our plans, wait for opportunities and find the time to build it all, we are entering our brews in some brewing contests for a little accolades. In this fair, we entered the Amber our lead brewer specializes in and won't find out 'til tomorrow whether we picked up a prize. Should be some fun stories to come the next while and I will let you know how we did.

Brewery Visits!

IMG_2544.JPG

What better use of the beautiful weather, time off and clear roads than to visit some breweries? Boshkung Brewery was featured in a hops and you will see one of the top 3 Pints of the Week up above.

IMG_2554.JPG

I will probably revisit this place once a year if I am blessed with time up in the highlands at the cottage. Feels like a small cottage brewery in a small town but they actually have a few locations in the region. Solid brewery with a good IPA game and wonderful rustic feel with plenty of out-door space to enjoy a brew in the dog days of summer. Would recommend!

On of our visits so recent that I haven't even shared it yet is a stop at {Royal City Brewing](https://royalcitybrew.ca/) in Guelph. I am a sucker for a beer hall and this one happens to be located next to the store with all of our brewing supplies.

This delicious looking hazy beauty is known as Riverside New England IPA and I will have to fill you in a little more on this in the next #bbersaturday post. Damn fine.

Another beery stop on the highways and biways this summer was at Jackass Brewery I recall having one of their IPAs a couple years ago but was excited to rediscover and sample some fresh from their taps.

IMG_2799.JPG

Another neat operation in an industrial building, making great use of the space to house all of the fermenters and all the other equipment that goes into a full function independent brewery.

IMG_2802.JPG

Here is a hint at what we enjoyed but I will have to once again leave you with this refreshing summery image and invite you to the next post for more details.

Other Summer Beer Adventures!

IMG_2060.JPG

Beer at the ballpark! Definitely not cheap when you are an an MLB game but you have to enjoy a pint at the old ball game in the summer!

IMG_2415 (1).JPG

Session IPAs. In the summer time, you have to put more emphasis on hydration and cooling off. This means you can't be chugging 6.5% IPAs in the day when others are crushing Coors Light garbage. This Sunnyside session IPA from Great Lakes Brewery is among the best ones that keep showing up every year. Tasty and light, hoppy enough to satisfy tastebuds on a hot day. Summer is Session IPA season.

A Taste of Summer Beerology

IMG_2495.JPG

This is rally the "What I Did This Summer" report from the #beersaturday angle. From this awesome region in Canada, I am blessed with riches in the way of craft beer, the outdoors to enjoy it in, and the privilege to brew our own. Thanks for joining me on this hazy trip down memory lane during an amazingly foamy summer!

I am so jealous of all the different varieties of beer you are able to taste. Still want to try out Flying Monkey someday, if not just for the name.

I can only imagine how fresh and delicious a self brewed beer using fresh grains would taste. That awesome that you entered it in a contest. Good luck!

Sounds like you sampled a lot of great beers this summer. A success!
