3 Pics & a Story - Silent Disco
I have the habit of telling many stories each post. How about a single story with 3 pics? Now you get it.
The Crew
This town sure has a great music scene. Sure it took a hit with lockdowns and such but the hibernation is making for a strong comeback. One group that seemed to find their feet in the last few years is the Revival Vinyl Society. A local association of record loving collectors, djs and musical businesses. Unofficially headquartered at Revival House, the community would gather to share their favourite records on the big speakers of the upstairs lounge the Belfry. Kinda like #3tunetuesday mixed with #beersaturday in person!
The DJs
Tonight, we feature local veterans DJ Wigs and Mista D on the 1s and 2s. I have had the pleasure of watching these guys DJ intimate and large events individually, but not together officially like tonight. I have seen their impressive collections which range from house to hiphop, rock to pop, reggae to jungle and most parts in between. Wigs also moonlights as owner of Revival House and Mista D sings for many awesome acts including The Salads, Mob Barley & the Railers, and most recently, The Magnificent 6ix
Tonight, they are actually playing a family friendly March break event so I had no Idea what we were in store for.
The Silent Disco
First things first. What is a silent disco? Relatively new to me but you wear these wireless neon headsets, and the music comes through them only. No loud speakers which make it a very easy event to hold as it is relatively quiet and portable! I attended one of these when Wigs and D were spinning different tunes side-by-side, and you could switch the headsets from one set to the other. The headsets lit up in a colour that indicated which one you were listening to so the DJs could see who was groovin' to their tunes. Also neat because you could see who was enjoying their colour the most and switch to that.
As for tonight, it was held at the museum, a free event during March break for families! My understanding is it was funded by the local tourism alliance which is pretty nice seeing as this event was for local families. The tunes were a nice mix of bumping house, pop, dancy pop, and even some world beats and reggae mixed in. Fantastic to see the kids enjoying the active, social event and having fun dancing along side their parents.
A really fun night and a bonus for all on March Break!
