Warhammer - One Drop Pod complete! Ready for low orbit Assault!

Good day everyone! Zak here again with another Warhammer army update.

I am getting ready for a truly massive battle on the 5th of August. I hope to have an army with a total strength of 5,100pts ready for that battle. For now with the addition below, I am up to 3,115pts! 11 painting days to go including tonight! Can I do it?

I will try!

Below is a Drop Pod for my Space Wolves army. What is a Drop Pod? Well, it carries troops and it is shot from low orbit space craft onto a battlefield. Usually, vehicles such as these are reserved for Shock Assault troops such as the Emperor's finest: the Space Marines!

Space Wolves love these things, far more than trusting the strange technological sorcery of teleportation technology!

This guy can carry 10 infantry but nothing in the larger armor classes or heavier equipment such as: Terminator Armor, Gravis Armor, Jump Pack Troops or the feral Wulfen.

It can however carry either Firstborn Marines in Power Armor or Primaris Marines in Tacticus Armor.

This unit has the Drop Pod Assault rule. Regardless of Mission Rules which could dictate how many units may be placed in Strategic Reserves, the Drop Pod may be ADDED to that total to push the limit above.

Furthermore it may be used in the First, Second or Third turn to bring whatever unit is embarked inside to the battlefield. As it is a vehicle that has arrived via Deep Strike rules, it counts as moving. This means that the unit that disembarks from it - and they MUST disembark, count as disembarking from a moving vehicle.

This means that on the turn that they arrive, they may shoot but they cannot declare a charge. Despite this meaning that empirically, for a single unit to use a Drop Pod it would be best to use some sort of Ranged attacking unit to surprise the enemy by being in range and being able to see units they would like to hide, there is still an opportunity to use them for assaults!

When using Drop Pods to benefit Close Combat units, the concept of distance, surprise and screening comes into play. Drop two or three drop pods and create a wall between yourself and the enemy. Line this up with terrain and effectively block off one side of the board.

The enemy will need to attack the vehicles with shooting and melee to get it out of the way, upon which time you launch your counter-offensive!

Right now I have one... so I will need to continue painting!

Indeed! Not many models can still move and swivel after they are built. But usually, they are Space Marine ones!

Hahahah, so you will see that there are 2x braces on each side. Those are meant the be for a Marine each.

However... they cannot fit the models as they are currently sized.

To be honest, a lot of the older vehicles had this problem.

However, certain vehicles are OK. There is also a problem with scale-creep over time. The game has been around 40 years and in that time, certain new kits keep getting bigger...
