Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Library 99 - Dark Angels, Deathwing Terminator Squad
Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
Also this has become quite the Challenge! With so many units to review in the game the consensus in the hobby community is that I will not have enough time to review all of the Datasheets before the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 came out.
I should have started when 10th edition launched!
411 days since the start of 10th Edition.
This is Review #99, I am 312 reviews behind! Am I slowly winning?
Picking them randomly, let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:
Dark Angels, Deathwing Terminator Squad
10th Edition Codex
Right! Another entry for the Dark Angels. This is the Deathwing. The Elite First Company of the Dark Angels, led by Grand Master of the Deathwing - Belial whom we have already reviewed!
There is also a Deathwing Knights unit... and that means, yes! I have all the Deathwing subfaction units in the game reviewed and in this Library!
Now this means that I can start looking at synergies between units!
Essentially, this unit is very similar to the Space Marine Terminator unit, which I have not yet reviewed, but they have an extra choice when it comes to a Heavy Weapon and the unit may have a Watcher.
It is 180pts for a 5 man unit and a whopping 360pts for a 10 man unit.
Its tricky to build, Space Marine Terminators cost $65 for a box of 5. But to get the Plasma Cannon and the specific heads there is an upgrade sprue that costs $35.
That would be steep if the Upgrade sprue only modified one model, or squad. There are enough head and such that multiple units can be upgraded.
Let's see their stats!
Stats
Movement 5"
Toughness 5
Save 2+/4++(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 3
Ld 6+
OC 1
Weapons
All Terminators come equipped with a Storm Bolter.
For every 5, one Terminator can wield one of the following:
- Assault Cannon
- Heavy Flamer
- Cyclone Missile Launcher, plus Storm Bolter
- Plasma Cannon (This one is unique on Dark Angel Terminators)
Range:
Storm Bolter
Range 24", 2 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S4, Ap 0, 1 Damage each
Rapid Fire 2 (So 4 Attacks at 12")
Assault Cannon
Range 24", 6 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S6, Ap 0, 1 Damage each
Devastating Wounds (6's to Wound bypass saves and cause Mortal Wounds)
Heavy Flamer
Range 12", D6 Attacks, Torrent, S5, Ap -1, 1 Damage each
Torrent (Hits Automatically with the number of attacks rolled), Ignores Cover
Two firing options for the Cyclones, krak missile or frag missile:
Cyclone Missile Launcher - krak missile
Range 48", 2 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S9, Ap -2, D6 Damage each
Cyclone Missile Launcher - frag missile
Range 48", 2D6 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S4, Ap 0, 1 Damage each
Blast (Extra 1 attack per 5 models in enemy unit rounding down)
Two firing option for Plasma Cannon, regular and overcharge:
Plasma Cannon Standard
Range 36", D6 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S7, Ap -2, 1 Damage each
Blast (Extra 1 attack per 5 models in enemy unit rounding down)
Plasma Cannon Overcharge
Range 36", D6 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S8, Ap -3, 1 Damage each
Blast (Extra 1 attack per 5 models in enemy unit rounding down), Hazardous (roll a dice after shooting, if you roll a 1, the shooter takes 3 mortal wounds!)
Melee:
The Sergeant in the squad is armed with a Power Weapon.
The rest of the unit is armed with Power Fists, though any number of them may exchange a Power Fist for a Chainfist
Power Weapon
4 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S5, Ap -2, 1 Damage each
Power Fist
3 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S8, Ap -2, 2 Damage each
Chainfist
3 Attacks, Hitting on 4+, S8, Ap -2, 2 Damage each
Anti-Vehicle 3+(Critically Wounds Vehicles on a 3+)
Wargear Abilities
Watcher in the Dark
This is the mysterious little Jawa looking dude that follows them around. Once per game, use the Watcher and the unit gains a 4+ Feel No Pain against Mortal Wounds for a phase.
This is great, its free, why not? Helps you against certain situations!
Abilities
Deep Strike (Able to be set up anywhere on the board from Reserves)
Teleport Homer
At the start of the game, put down a Teleport Homer anywhere that is not inside your opponent's deployment zone.
You can, once per game, target this unit with the Rapid Ingress Stratagem for 0CP and deploy within 3" of the Teleport Homer and outside 9" of an enemy unit.
Deathwing
When models in this unit make an attack, you can ignore any modifiers to Weapon Skill or Ballistic skill.
Generally this means any de-buff from other units are ignored and they remain as accurate as ever!
Additionally, should they be targeting the Oath of Moment target, they add +1 to the to Hit roll.
Thoughts
Terminators are always awesome! Deathwing Terminators have an awesome aesthetic. I feel that most Dark Angels are going to field at least one Plasma Cannon... because they CAN and not because of whether or not it is the best Heavy Weapon option.
Which one is the best Heavy Weapon you ask? Well... that depends on the internal balance of your list building. You should make sure that this army can deal with anything. Base your choices on that.
That makes 6 Dark Angel Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 37.5% Completed! The total Completed is 10.19% Complete! Can I review them all?!
Thank you for reading!

@zakludick
Apologies if I've asked this before... but why aren't they green?
Because they are the new chapter (Proof me wrong) and this coulor are the deep religious unit ( i know DA are religious but they are deeper XD)
Bwahahahaha! I can't rmember if you DID ask, but I am happy to explain:
In a nutshell: Because they are Deathwing!
A little more involved: A squad of Deathwing sold their lives to defend the Rock from an entire Genestrealer invasion and thus saved the future of the Chapter. Thus to honour them, the Deathwing bear bone coloured armor.
The off-colour response: They have bone colour armor because they are the Deathwing - they bone you!
Hahahaha, thanks for so many levels of responses. An entire Genestealer invasion? That sounds... hard.
I am honest, i dont start to get new coulour Layout for my army 😂
It belong Green
1st Company, Deathwing is bone colour and anything else that might be part of the 1st Company Veterans.
2nd Company, Ravenwing is BLACK armor. The Pre-Heresy Dark Angel Colour. Why? None of the Ravenwing ever fell to Chaos or fought on the wrong side.
3rd-10th Company - Those are the rest of the Chapter... they are Green!
That collection looks super cool
Thank you. Yeah I do have some of these on my collection

The Plasma Cannon's flexibility really stands out in your review. Deathwing Terminators have solid choices man seriously
Indeed. Terminator units are always solid units!
