Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Library 73 - Deathwatch, Spectrus Kill Team
Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!

What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.
So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:
Deathwatch, Spectrus Kill Team
10th Edition Index
The Spectrus Killteam is another Deathwatch entry where there is no kit of models you can buy to just have this unit.
This unit is made up of a multitude of different models... You can either play a 5 man squad of Kill Team Infiltrators for 105pts, or for double that, 210pts you can have the following:
5-10 Kill Team Infiltrators
and 0-2 Kill Team Infiltrators with bolt sniper rifles
and 0-2 Kill Team Infiltrators with jump packs
and 0-4 Kill Team Infiltrators with occulus bolt carbines
and 0-4 Kill Team Infiltrators with combat knives
So yes.. at max you could have a crazy 22 man unit!
To understand what they all do, I will have to do the different guys one at a time.
They all have the same base stats, so let's start there...
Stats
Movement 6"
Toughness 4
Save 3+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 2
Ld 6+
OC 1
Weapons
Kill Team Infiltrators
Every Kill Team Infiltrator is equipped with: bolt pistol; marksman bolt carbine; close combat weapon.
One model equipped with a marksman bolt carbine can be equipped with one of the following:
◦ 1 helix gauntlet
◦ 1 Infiltrator comms array
Ranged:
Bolt Pistol
12" Range, 1 Shot, Hitting on 3+. S4, AP0 and 1 Damage.
Pistol
Marksman bolt carbine
48" Range, 1 Shot, 3+ to Hit, S4, AP0 and 1 Damage each.
Heavy (This means +1 to Hit when the unit stands still... that is a lot of Bolters hitting on 2+!
Melee:
Close combat weapon
3 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S4, AP0 and 1 Damage each.
Wargear
Helix gauntlet - The squad now has a 6+ Feel no Pain
or
Infiltrator comms array - When you target this unit with a Stratagem, roll a 5+ and gain +1CP.
Kill Team Infiltrators with bolt sniper rifles 0-2
Every Kill Team Infiltrator with bolt sniper rifle is equipped with: bolt pistol; bolt sniper rifle; close combat weapon.
- One model can replace its bolt sniper rifle with 1 bolt carbine
- Any number of models can each replace their bolt sniper rifle with 1 las fusil
Ranged:
Bolt Pistol
12" Range, 1 Shot, Hitting on 3+. S4, AP0 and 1 Damage.
Pistol
Bolt sniper rifle
36" Range, 1 Shot, 3+ to Hit, S5, AP-2 and 3 Damage each.
Heavy and Precision
(This gun can pick out Characters and do lots a direct damage to them.)
One guy can have a bolt carbine but I do not see to point:
Bolt carbine
24" Range, 2 Shots, 3+ to Hit, S4, AP0 and 1 Damage each.
Precision
Its just a normal bolter with Precision. I would rather keep the Bolt Sniper rifle above!
But both Bolt Sniper Rifles can become Las fusils... which are better I feel...
Bolt sniper rifle
36" Range, 1 Shot, 3+ to Hit, S9, AP-3 and D6 Damage each.
Heavy
Ok... so you can't hit the character directly... it has a high Strength gun and it has a potential for a high damage... perhaps the Bolt Sniper rifle is actually the best option!
Melee:
Close combat weapon
3 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S4, AP0 and 1 Damage each.
Kill Team Infiltrators with jump packs 0-2
Every Kill Team Infiltrator with jump pack is equipped with: bolt pistol; accelerator autocannon; close combat weapon; jump pack.
Right the close combat weapon and bolt pistol are the same as the above and the Jump Pack allows that model to move 12" and he has Fly.
Ranged:
Accelerator autocannon
48" Range, 3 Shots, 4+ to Hit, S8, AP-1 and 2 Damage each.
Heavy
Great guns. Marine killers, or can damage light tanks/monster as well.
Kill Team Infiltrators with occulus bolt carbines 0-2
Every Kill Team Infiltrator with occulus bolt carbine is equipped with: bolt pistol; occulus bolt carbine; paired combat blades.
Again, I am going to skip the Bolt Pistol entry and go for the other two...
Ranged:
Occulus bolt carbine
24" Range, 2 Shots, 3+ to Hit, S4, AP0 and 1 Damage each.
Assault, Ignores Cover
The Ignore Cover is completely unnecessary for this gun - It has no AP, so Ignoring Cover means nothing... Assault at least means they can run and shoot but since there are only two guys in the unit with carbines in the unit.... so.... why run this unit with all those other guns with the Heavy keyword?
Melee:
Paired combat blades
3 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S4, AP0 and 1 Damage each.
Sustained Hits 1
So just like the Close Combat Weapons, but when you roll a 6 to Hit, you get an extra hit... not a massive difference when there are only two guys like this in the squad....
Kill Team Infiltrators with combat knives 0-2
Every Kill Team Infiltrator with combat knife is equipped with: special-issue bolt pistol; combat knife.
Ranged:
Special-issue bolt pistol
12" Range, 1 Shot, Hitting on 3+. S4, AP-1 and 1 Damage.
Pistol, Precision
So these are pistols with AP-1 and it can single out a Chatacter... two pistol like this is not huge, but there is a slight change that you might be able to cause an extra wound on a Character.
Melee:
Combat knife
4 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S4, AP0 and 1 Damage each.
Precision
Another character target weapon. Otherwise the weapon is not that exciting...
Abilities
Scouts 6", Infiltrators
Spectrus Doctrines
At the end of the opponent's turn, if this unit is more than 6" away from all enemy units, they can be removed from the table and placed into Strategic Reserves.
Thoughts
Its a pretty strange unit. I am tempted to say I would run them in the huge blob of 22 just because its more cost effective and you can hold objectives with the sheet number of bodies.
The 5 man unit... seems wasteful as there are other units you could field for those points instead.
That is 3 Deathwatch Datasheets reviewed putting them on 27.27% Completed and the total Completed on 7.51% Complete! (I forgot about a combo post I made.)
